Job Description
Distance Learning Program is a charity program. It provides free ESL classes for public school students in under-served and remote areas of China via satellite.
Article 1: Job Description
Teach virtual ESL courses to under-served areas in China. The age groups of the students will vary from elementary to high school.
Article 2: Working Schedule
Weekdays (Monday - Thursday): 07:50 - 17:10
(Friday): 07:50 -15:30
Lunch Break (Monday -Thursday): 11:30 -13:00
(Friday): 11:30- 12:30
*Under special circumstances, teachers may be arranged to teach evening classes that are outside of normal working hours. Teachers are entitled to one half-day of work per week if their class schedule contains evening classes.
Article 3: Job Responsibilities
3.1 Instructional Periods
The average workload for a teacher is 20 instructional periods. Depending on the grade level, the length of an instructional period can range from 35 to 50 minutes.
3.2 Class Preparation
Teachers are expected to be well prepared for each and every instructional period. The following sections outline more specific expectations.
3.2.1 Course Design
Although teachers will be provided with materials for most courses, our program is rapidly developing and new and more unique courses need to be created to meet the demand. Because of this, we expect teachers to be comfortable with proposing new courses, and suggesting modifications to existing courses.
3.2.2 Course Syllabus
At the beginning of each school year, teachers are expected to submit syllabi for the courses that they will be teaching.
3.2.3 Individual Class Materials
Teachers are expected to submit the materials that they will use for class in advance of the class.
3.2.4 Lesson Plans
Lesson plans should be submitted one week in advance of the class.
3.2.5 Homework
Teachers should design homework assignments that reinforce the content that was learned in class.
3.3 Professional Development
In addition to instructional duties, teachers are expected to participate in and lead professional development activities.
3.3.1 Professional Development Sessions
Teachers are expected to lead and participate in training to further develop their skills as teachers. The timings of the trainings will vary from semester to semester.
3.3.2 Meetings
In order to manage the quality of instruction, and make sure that our team is aware of all the things happening inter-departmentally, teachers will be expected to attend regular meetings.
3.3.3 Observations and Peer Reviews
Due to the special nature of our program, there will often be outside visitors observing classes given by our department. In addition to that, we recommend that teachers within the department regularly observe classes given by other teachers and give appropriate feedback.
Job Requirements
i. Bachelor degree or above, majoring in Education or the applied teaching position related.
ii. Registered teaching credentials, PGCE, CELTA, and DELTA are preferred.
iii. More than two years teaching experience are preferred.
iv. English Native speakers are preferred.
Compensation and Benefits
i. Monthly salary before tax:
-Teaching position: RMB 25,000 - 35,000
ii. Full payment for winter and summer vacations
iii. Two-year employment contract bonus (4% of the total amount of full contract salary)
iv. Free shared apartment or Housing allowance of RMB3,500-5,000
v. Reimbursement for annual round trip flights up to USD 2,000 (Beijing - home country)
vi. Reimbursement for relocation fee of maximum RMB 2,000
