The Distribution Manager will manage distribution operations at the LSG’s Grand Island facility. This position is responsible for outbound shipments for our Domestic, International and Bio Custom teams.

The successful candidate should have strong communication, leadership and distribution skills to deliver consistently excellent service to our customers. The Manager is responsible for meeting the goals and objectives of Global Logistics and the Site, as determined by customer requirements and business priorities. Services may include interaction with order processing/purchasing, shipping, receiving, inventory management, warehousing and overall material movement within the site. Provide direction and support for on-site associates by establishing processes, procedures and serving as coach to the team. Work closely with customer service, PMO team and operations functions ensure all requirements and service metrics are met and improved on a consistent basis. The Distribution Manager will establish an environment of continuous improvement employing all the tenants of the lean / 5S and the PPI process.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provides leadership to assigned staff by performing the following: leading organizational change; developing and empowering staff; cultivating relationships; putting staff in a position to succeed, meeting their personal career goals while also achieving organizational goals; building effective teams that apply their diverse skills and perspectives to achieve common goals; driving engagement and creating a climate where staff are motivated to do their best.
  • Take ownership of safety initiatives including incident investigations and reporting within the required timeframe. Participate in safety walkthroughs and continuous improvement activities.
  • Develops KPI’s, tracks trends, and implements best practices. Reports business metrics, targets and new opportunities.
  • Oversee the shipment of material and/or finished goods in a timely manner according to customer requirements.
  • Responsible for managing departmental programs in accordance with Quality System procedures.
  • Responsible for departmental audit readiness and for participating in internal and external quality audits.
  • Responsible for root cause identification and development of corrective and preventative actions.
  • Provide role-model leadership in driving change to achieve continuous improvement through Lean best practices in Warehousing, Material Flow and Logistics.
  • Reinforce and drive communicating business and departmental objectives and results on a continuous basis.
  • Support inventory management processes (cycle-counting, MDR processing, warehouse slotting optimization, pick-path optimization, etc.)
  • Support inventory accuracy activities to achieve annual targets for the Grand Island Site.
  • Balance labor resources across distribution operations as necessary to assure the overall success of the Department.
  • Serve as a point of escalation for Customer, Supplier and/or Manufacturing supply issues.
  • Contribute to labor resource forecasting under the direction of the Distribution Sr. Manager.
  • Support and contribute to continuous improvement activities for service level performance
  • Engage with various carriers on both the inbound and outbound side of the operation.
  • Review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) ensuring consistent and reliable processes and procedures comply with all regulations and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
  • Maintain work areas within the spirit and guidelines of 5S in accordance with Lean manufacturing and company guidelines.
  • To establish a strong cultural environment; this includes team building and improvement programs to create a distribution framework that will assure world class customer service. Ensure that this culture promotes safety, productivity and teamwork at all levels of the operation.
  • Facilitate strong working rapport between warehouse team, production department, Customer Service, Sales, and the Customer.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or Business Management and five (5) years of experience as warehouse/distribution manager or team leader; or an Associates Degree and ten (10) years of experience as warehouse/distribution manager or team leader. Must have three (3) years managing logistics staff.

Experience:

  • 5 or more years of leadership experience in Logistics/Warehouse, Supply Chain, Manufacturing/Distribution Operations is required.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Demonstrated ability to motivate teams and establish goals, metrics, data and plans to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with key internal and external customers / suppliers; including success functioning as a change agent / team leader and team member in a multi-skilled, dynamic and matrix business environment.
  • Must possess strong leadership and management skills.
  • Sound understanding of distribution operations
  • Knowledge of lean material concepts and application in warehousing and logistics.
  • Ability to effectively interact with a variety of disciplines and levels to resolve conflict.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to construct and carry out plans within given timetables.
  • Demonstrated organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with an ability to identify problems, trends, develop solutions and implement a course of action.
  • Maintains confidentiality
  • Knowledge E1 transactions.
  • MS-Office Capabilities (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
