What you will do
This position offers an opportunity to lead the Industrial Hygiene program to drive advancements and alignment globally. The position will also provide support and leadership to other programs including Biosafety, Change Management, Project Management, and other global EHSS programs at Amgen Thousand Oaks and other locations. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic, creative, and professional individual with demonstrated ability to integrate safety and health requirements into the business and interact daily with area engineers, process specialists and process leaders.
Lead the Industrial Hygiene strategy, core IH programs and IH center of excellence team
Implement software based global solution for Industrial Hygiene and Biosafety processes.
Inspects and evaluates work operations, production methods to identify potential chemical and physical hazards. Ensures engineering and other controls measures effectively prevent staff exposures
Review all new or proposed changes to processes, process equipment, materials or operations to determine all necessary EHSS requirements are addressed in a thorough and rigorous manner
Act as primary EHSS representative to assigned projects to provide EHS Safety Engineering formal review at Concept, Basis of Design, Detailed Design and other projects
Regular assessments of safety procedures, industrial safety practices, related equipment, training of operators, and other EHSS related items are also within scope
Interprets, applies, and enforces compliance with Federal, State, and local requirements
Integrates identified trends, data and information into overall program plans, deliverables and recommendations based on data
May implement and support various technical safety programs and other tasks as assigned

Doctorate degree and 2 years of Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability experience
Or
Master’s degree and 6 years of Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability experience
Or
Bachelor’s degree and 8 years of Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability experience
Or
Associate’s degree and 10 years of Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability experience
Or
High school diploma / GED and 12 years of Environmental, Health, Safety and Sustainability experience
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Industrial Hygiene (IH) principles, Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical manufacturing processes as they relate to IH.
Knowledge of key EHSS programs including, IH, Hazcom, PPE, Biosafety, Chemical Management, IAQ, etc.
Strong understanding of IH design, risk assessment and project engineering experience.
Knowledge with regulations as they pertain to small and large molecule drugs substance and drug product production facilities in laboratory operations to ensure EHSS requirements are met in project design and delivery.
Applied knowledge and understanding of EHS principles and practices, regulatory standards, and requirements in context of business activities.
Strong verbal & written communication skills, ability to communicate within departments, with scientists, engineers, and managers
Strong leadership skills in order to influence leadership, and other partners to achieve the highest safety engineering standards across the network
