Job Description

Eaton’s electrical group Canada is seeking an EHS/CI Manager to join our team. This position is located at our Edmonton, Alberta location.

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Plant Manager, and as a key member of the Plant Leadership team, the incumbent is responsible for working closely with local stakeholders to drive EH&S and CI activities.

 

EH&S:

Systematically identify & mitigate risk, and build a Zero Incident Safety Culture. The incumbent will serve as a mentor/trainer, and subject matter expert, ultimately responsible for developing and deploying a strategy to ensure EH&S compliance and sustainable continuous improvement to the Edmonton EH&S Management System, MESH system, and local government regulatory requirements. 

 

CI:

To improve organizational effectiveness through the coordination and deployment of the Eaton Business System to ensure the business meets growth, productivity, and quality objectives. 

To improve organizational effectiveness, and build a culture of innovation & continuous improvement, through the coordination and deployment of the Eaton Business System. This role will lead key CI projects, processes, and initiatives to ensure that operational, financial, and continuous improvement objectives are met, in accordance with safety, quality, and customer requirements. The CI Manager is also responsible for coordinating and driving implementation of the Continuous Improvement Framework (CIF) across the Plant. He/she will serve as a subject matter expert and provide ongoing coaching/mentorship and support to internal stakeholders to advance Site Eaton Lean Six Sigma (ELSS) program deployment/maturity. The incumbent must be a natural leader, motivator, hands-on problem solver and effective mentor. Area of responsibility is primarily tactical/operational in nature, with localized strategic impact.

In this function you will:

 

EH&S:

  • Promote and collaborate with team members to identify new objectives, areas of improvement, activities and guidelines required to effectively drive reduction in environmental, health and safety (EHS) risks and hazards
  • Provide leadership with Eaton’s management system for environment, health, safety and security (MESH). Maintain a positive commitment to the prevention of pollution and protection of the environment.
  • Act as the EH&S Management Representative for all end/3rd party certifications; Chair local Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) and facilitate monthly workplace inspections to identify & address hazards
  • Adhere to ISO 9001 quality procedures and work instructions, and actively participate in the quality improvement process

CI:

 

  • To serve as a role model in the areas of leadership, teamwork, customer focus, continuous improvement, safety and environmental stewardship to ensure alignment with Eaton values

 

  • Drive & support Continuous Improvement Framework (CIF) deployment

 

  • Initiate, lead, and facilitate successful Kaizen events/Continuous Improvement events, Rapid Improvement Events, and Business Process Improvements (BPI) for the Edmonton facility

 

  • Serve as Lean Tool Expert in all ELSS/CI Tools with emphasis on Value Stream Mapping, Standard Work and 5S+,  and develop local ELSS/CI Tool Champions and Experts by providing training and consulting support

 

  • Provides Operational Assessment (OpA) support across the organization to drive short-term and long-term business improvements, serving as a change agent & mentor to help accelerate Site Model Plant journey

 

  • Deliver aggressive annual cost savings, while enhancing safety & product quality, through creation, optimization, and standardization of processes by Mfg. Engineering & Lean resources

Qualifications

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

  • Post-Secondary Education in a relevant field
  • Minimum 4 years EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.  Only candidates that currently reside within the immediate geographical area of Edmonton will be considered
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the Canada without company sponsorship

 

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Mfg, Industrial, or Electrical) or Commerce, or equivalent College Diploma
  • Licensed P.Eng or CET, PMP, and/or MBA would be considered assets
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in continuous improvement manufacturing and/or EH&S operations
  • Training and experience with Lean and Six Sigma Tools; LSS Green or Black belt strongly preferred

 

Position Criteria:

  • Strong technical acumen, paired with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Passion for innovation & continuous improvement, willingness to challenge status quo
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing processes and Six Sigma Tools preferred
