Role Headline The EHS Officer will support the executive management to drive a zero-harm culture within Siemens Large Drives, ensuring that every employee returns home safe every day through rigorous adherence to legislation and regulations and the implementation of world-class policies and procedures aligned to Siemens global standards. The successful candidate will make a decisive contribution to the sustainable success of Siemens Large Drives manufacturing, assembly, construction and service operations in Southern Africa. Responsibilities of the Role General • Acts as the representative of Executive Management with respect to all EHS matters • Contributes to implementation of effective EHS Management System which meets customer, regulatory and Siemens needs. • Develops, proposes and implements appropriate EHS processes and/or methods. • Plans and accomplishes roll out of EHS processes, programs or projects and monitors respective milestone in related organization. • Analyses and monitors adherence to EHS standards in the company and prepares regular EHS reporting. • Analyzes and reports on changes in relevant EHS laws and regulations and recommend changes for internal standards. • Implements effective EHS audit procedures. • Contributes to set local EHS related targets and monitors target achievement within business units. • Ensures proper qualification of all persons carrying safety or environmental responsibility. • Promotes a holistic and comprehensive understanding of EHS Management Systems • Designs, Documents and Implements effective management systems in accrdance with the requirements of ISO14001 and ISO45001 standards • Responsible for ISO audit and certification processes • Continuously supports all business units to comply with and continuously improve the Management System • Assess the effectiveness of operational control and risk mitigation Continuous Improvement • Determines, plans, initiates and coordinates continuous improvement activities with regard to the EHS Management System and internal and external requirements • Ensures that CAPAs (Corrective and preventive actions are executed) Site Operations • Develop and maintain project Health & Safety files in line with customer and legal requirements (OHS Act and Mine Health and Safety Act) • Develop project environment and safety management plans. • Assist and act as designated EHS Officer as and when needed on customer project sites. • Ensure availability of qualified EHS Officers for long-term site establishments. • Carry out Planned Task Observations, Safety Walk & Talks • Lead in preparation of Environmental Aspect Impact & HIRA register. • Assist in the conducting of Risk assessments and ensuring that control measures are implemented and adequate. • Assist in EHS contractor management. • Coordination of location waste management services and record keeping of waste manifests and disposal/recycling certificates • Maintaining contractor and supplier statutory registrations, certifications and permits to ensure they remain valid and up to date. Reporting & Communication • Ensures timeous availability of accurate EHS reporting data (SESIS, HS Reporting, KPI development, sustainability) • Prepares regular EHS reporting for external authorities or internal stakeholders. • Assists management in the preparation of key EHS messages for inclusion in team briefing and communications • Ensures promotion of best practices and shares lessons learned across location through structured knowledge sharing approach • Defines, plans and conducts regular training for employees and management • Maintains operational contact to external authorities and Siemens Large Drives global safety community. Dimensions/ KPIs • EHS targets and quality of outcome; management of non conformities; • Progress of EHS mindset, awareness, and cultures; maturity of management system; • Customer acceptance of and satisfaction with project EHS deliverables Qualifications and Experience • Must have a minimum Degree/Diploma in Health and Safety • Minimum SAMTRAC Certification • 5 – 8 years relevant work experience within EHS Management • Must be proficient in ISO14001 and 45001 Standards • Must have experience EHS management in the mining, site-based electrical contracting and manufacturing environments • Mine Health and Safety Act qualification/certification? • Registration with the SACPCMP as a CHSO or CHSM (Advantageous) • Qualified Risk Assessor and Incident Investigator • Must be willing/able to travel to various sites within Southern Africa • Must be in possession of a valid passport and driver’s license Attributes and skills • Good communication and writing skills; • Responsible and accountable; • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint); • Experience in the configuration and operation safety management and reporting IT systems • Must be willing to travel and have own transport; • Ability to deal with both external and internal customers and work with a multi-disciplinary and multi- national team of individuals/departments; • Collaboration and influencing – building trustful relationships with employees and clients.
