We are looking for an Economics Advisory Leader to join our Hong Kong office and to contribute to the ongoing growth of our Advisory business.
The successful candidate will contribute to a range of economic analysis including preparing business cases for specific client projects, working with clients to accelerate growth in lesser developed countries, executing projects focused on policy intervention or regulatory economics for statutory pricing and investment frameworks, and providing input to policies on climate change, the circular economy and air quality and evaluating the value of natural capital.
Reporting to our regional Advisory Leader, you will help to originate and execute engagements that leverage the firm’s broad range of technical and commercial expertise.
Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the growth of Arup’s existing Advisory platform in line with ambitions of the Regional Board, by promoting the firm’s position externally and internally on strategically important economic matters
- Act as bridge between our technical work and how it shapes cities in economic terms
- Take a significant role in identifying and pitching for infrastructure advisory, PPP advisory and economic advisory projects across Asia
- Support projects / pitches of other teams where economic and/or financial analysis is required
- Build relationships with target clients, and take primary responsibility for establishing and maintaining effective client management
- Execute economic and/or financial advisory projects, which will include: building and maintaining economic and financial models, conducting data analysis and policy research, contributing to technical reports for a diverse range of infrastructure and economic development projects, and leading cross-discipline teams to develop bespoke client solutions
- Work closely with senior Arup economists in other regions
- Prepare ad hoc economics advice and research for the East Asia board on major policy issues of relevance to the region
- Develop a business plan for a lasting economics capability
- Lead knowledge sharing initiatives and support the development of other team members
Qualifications and Experiences required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Economics / Finance / Accounting or equivalent and a relevant postgraduate qualification
- A minimum of 15 years of financial / economic advisory experience, with the majority of this focused on real estate, infrastructure or policy setting
- Strong technical/academic grounding in economics and experience of real world application
- An established reputation, knowledge and understanding of Asia and appreciation of the economic and development challenges and opportunities in the region
- Leadership capabilities ideally gained in the consulting industry, and ability to work effectively and intelligently with other Arup disciplines
- Proven ability to build a team, develop client relationships and win work while demonstrating good commercial acumen in the process
- Existing relationships with Asian-based multi-lateral agencies, government agencies and key infrastructure investors
- Strong economic modelling capability and financial literacy
- Excellent problem solving, quantitative, analytical, and writing skills, with ability to work independently on projects
- Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint
- Personal skills that will facilitate the development of long term client relationships
- Asian language skills are preferred
