Job Description
The successful candidate will analyze a wide range of policies that have the potential to influence the national and global transition to a low-carbon energy system, such as local government development policies and planning documents for technology promotion zones. The duties will include original and secondary research as well as written and oral communication of research findings. The role will have a strong focus on leading projects that will help to drive the team’s research agenda and guide junior team members in achieving the organization’s strategic objectives.

The ideal Economist/Policy Researcher will have a strong grasp of economic principles and renewable energy policies both in China and globally, and solid experience undertaking technical economic and financial analysis (including modelling capabilities). They will have the people management skills to balance ad hoc requests with longer-term background research, and strong project management skills to ensure delivery of important priorities.

Responsibilities:

- Conduct quantitative and qualitative research; analyze national and regional renewable energy policies and proposals, administrative policies, and regulatory changes;
- Develop and execute research plans; data analysis; writing reports and other products; and engaging with other organizations, researchers, and advocates to conduct research and advance policy priorities. Candidates must demonstrate an ability to innovate and work across issues and domains;
- Propose and draft planning documents for projects supporting new energy industries, such as industry parks, research institutes, and R&D zones;
- Cooperate with local governments, research institutions and enterprises for project coordination;
- Elicit and provide feedback on written products.

Qualifications:
- Professional English proficiency, with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additional language proficiency, with priority for German and/or Japanese, will be considered a strong advantage (Mandarin is not required but will be considered as a plus);
- Graduate degree in Economics, Public Policy, energy technology, or a related field.
- Two years or more of relevant experience in relevant experience in energy (economics, technical or policy work)
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly with expert and non-expert audiences.
- Keen interest in clean energy, innovation, and public policy.
