Job title: Editorial Submissions Advisor (China)

Location: Shanghai

Springer Nature is seeking an Editorial Submissions adviser who will provide an excellent service to Chinese researchers in suggesting the best possible choice of journals to submit their papers. This is an important new role and will provide excellent experience for individuals wishing to start or progress in a career in academic publishing.

Candidates should be qualified to MSc or PhD level in any area of science, technology or medicine, and should be keen to expand their knowledge outside of their immediate area of speciality.

Main responsibilities

  • Work with Editorial, Publishing, Operations and Product teams to develop processes that are optimal for Chinese authors.
  • Assess scope, quality, format and novelty of new manuscripts, and find potential target journals in the Springer Nature portfolio.
  • Facilitate and support authors and editors in completing transfers between Springer Nature journals, providing excellent author service, within agreed specifications and timeframes and maintaining internal quality standards.
  • Communicate effectively with authors, and internal and external editors, about all aspects of the transfer procedure; answer transfer-related queries.
  • Maintain transfer reports.
  • Develop knowledge of the relevant systems and tools.
  • Stay up to date with your assigned subject area(s) and with relevant Springer Nature journals, to ensure the relevance of transfer suggestions.

Requirements for the position

Essential

  • MSc / PhD level or equivalent experience in any area of science, technology or medicine.
  • Broad academic interests, with enthusiasm to learn outside of your own subject area.
  • An interest in publishing and the needs of researchers who submit to journals.
  • Fast learner.
  • Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in English and comfortable with communicating with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proven organizational ability and time management skills.
  • A high level of computer literacy (including Excel, Word and Outlook).
  • Proven analytical/critical appraisal skills.

Desirable

  • Previous academic editorial/publishing/editing experience or equivalent exposure.
  • Experience with the Editorial Manager submission system.
