Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION Candidate will have the opportunity to design, validate & release standard enclosed control systems for the efficient and safe control and the monitoring and protection of industrial motors and their associated driven loads in varied applications. Enclosed product can include short circuit protective devices, variable speed drives, reduced voltage soft starters and NEMA and IEC starters. This position offers the opportunity for technical leadership as well as customer and stakeholder facing experience. The candidate will get to work on different types of products as mentioned above, as well as collaborate with multiple co-located cross-functional teams and remote design centers located throughout the world. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS As a Design Engineer the candidate will be accountable for contributing to the creation and execution of a project plan. They will be a contributing technical expert on a project and will also be responsible for coordinating and working with a global project team. Candidate will gain exposure to Eaton leaders through design reviews and other project status updates. Candidate will gain experience on a multi-functional project team to drive new product introduction through a phase gate product development process. Candidate will get a chance to work directly with marketing and their customer counterparts at major OEMs to identify new opportunities and capture requirements in a comprehensive design specification. Candidate will get hands-on laboratory experience using numerous equipment including voltage and current supplies, load banks, dynamometers, and data acquisition instrumentation. Candidate will contribute to the overall system design including component selection and mechanical package design. This includes 3D layout and electrical schematic creation and packaged designs primarily utilizing 3D CAD Software. Candidate will coordinate with internal drafting resources to ensure a comprehensive release package, including all associated metadata, compliant with Eaton design practices. Candidate will have an opportunity to learn industry standards (UL, IEC, CSA, etc.) while leveraging our internal certification team to ensure product compliance. Candidate will partner with internal Design for Manufacturing engineers to implement new manufacturing tools and techniques to drive differentiated operation excellence into the product line. Candidate will be in charge to maintain an accurate Bill of Material list at the ERP system, for all the products under his/her responsibility. As well as ensure the correct classification type for all the required components. Candidate will support our operations teams like Production, Manufacturing and Supply Chain and VAVE activities as well. Candidate will be engineering the customer order through the Eaton Systems like BidMan validating the correct BOM generation and cover sheet related to the product to release order to production phase. Performs other duties as required to achieve departmental and division objectives. This may include flexing to other product line teams #LI-DS1 Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering concentration from an accredited institution Position Criteria: Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both verbally and in written form (80%-85%) Comfortable in a self-directed environment Detail oriented, organized, able to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines Be a self-starter, ability to perform duties with limited supervision and be a cooperative team player. Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities Ability to perform civil design drafting in a 3D environment is a plus Preferred Qualifications: Ability to travel to the USA 30-40% New Product Development and/or Product line Support experience 3D CAD package familiarity (Autodesk Inventor) 2D CAD package familiarity (Autodesk AutoCAD) Operations experience Experience developing and reading/interpreting electrical schematic diagrams.
