The Molded Vehicle Panels team is responsible for New Product Design & Development of proprietary aerodynamic, spray-suppressant, and cosmetic exterior panels. This includes, but is not limited to, Side Fairings & Skirts, Splash Shields, Raintrays, Steer Wheel Fenders, Cowls, Rocker Panels, and supporting metal structures for all MVP systems.
Responsibilities
- Provide creative, technically-feasible designs that satisfy customer needs while adhering to Engineering standards and strategic direction
- Use CAD (Siemens NX) and other design tools to create 3D package models, concept geometry & detailed part design. Utilize desktop Finite
- Element Analysis (FEA), to ensure parts & assemblies meet or exceed design criteria
- Interface with Engineering personnel including the Cab, Chassis, &
- Mechatronics Departments to identify design criteria & ensure packaging needs are satisfied
- Act as Single-Point-Of-Contact for Digital Mock-Up (DMU) process development of complex cab-to-chassis interfaces
- Act as Single-Point-Of-Contact for reliability improvement initiatives including Zeus & FRACAS
- Identify optimum materials, tolerances, finishes, fasteners, and production methods for new designs
- Develop cost reduction initiatives: Ideation, Concepts, Quotes, Business cases, final design & documentation
- Generate and implement cross-functional ideas to continuously improve work environment, systems, tools, processes as well as product cost and quality
- Maintain and manage Molded Vehicle Panels Engineering documentation including Bills-of-Material (BoM’s) and Design Charts
- Benchmarking competitor products
- Leading design review meetings
- Training/coaching Engineering intern(s)
- Directing external design resources with Engineering project work
Required Qualifications
- Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or related fields from an accredited university/college with 3+ years of related experience required
- An attached resume is required
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) expert (Siemens NX system preferred) required
- Ability to create detailed 3D solid model geometry, 2D part & assembly drawings, and installation diagrams required.
- Apply GD&T to latest ASME standards to all drawings required.
- Finite Element Analysis. Must be able to create mesh, apply restraints, and perform static & modal analyses required.
- Demonstrated experience in the Design & Engineering of plastic & composite class 'A' parts in multiple processes (ex: injection molding, compression molding, spray-up, RIM, vacuum forming, etc.) required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) with 5000 hours of experience preferred
- Demonstrated experience designing complex stampings, castings, and metal fabrications for use in structural applications preferred.
- Experience designing exterior components in the trucking or automotive industry, including concept, prototype, and production vehicles preferred
- Knowledge of vehicle assembly plant processes preferred
- Demonstrated experience in failure mode root cause analysis preferred
- Experience with preparing and giving technical presentations to
- Engineering management preferred
