Job Description

The Mission

The Operations Engineer is member of the Operations Engineering group within the operations organization at Thermofisher. In this role you support introduction of new products into the factory but you are also contributing during regular production. This group collaborates closely with manufacturing, service, quality, new product development, logistics, Sourcing and PLM to ensure development of sustainable products according to the latest quality standards, at lowest COGS and in line with best practices throughout the life cycle of a product.

The Position

The Engineer reports into a Engineering Manager of a Engineeing Cluster as part of the Operations Engineering department and is contributing in NPI phase of module projects and works on product and process improvements during regular production.

The primary focus of the Engineer is to provide technical support to problems in Manufacturing and Supply chain as well as define structural solutions. The position closely interfaces with various functions to solve complex problems and to ensure that system specifications are met in compliance with the requirements for product shipment to customers. This person works on assignments requiring considerable judgement and intiative.

Deliverables:

  • Provides technical support to the factory, to ensure that thermofisher is capable of shipping quality products on-time to its customers
  • Is responsible for work instructions and defines the way of working for the factory (process flow)
  • Performs hands-on assembly, testing and training of personnel as required during project work (i.e., assembly, test or measurement, troubleshooting)
  • Provides input or participate in NPI projects according to Product Management Process (PMP)
  • Works under supervision on New Product Introduction (NPI) projects as they transition from concept through release according to PMP process.
  • Executes second line troubleshooting in factory or field service (remote or on customer site).
  • Supports factory and field service engineers with first builds, installs and upgrades of newly introduced systems and modules to ensure proper working order. in factory or field service (remote or on customer site)
  • Develops and maintains troubleshooting procedures
  • Provides input, submits and/or executes engineering changes to support supplier, factory and service as per ECO procedure or LCM process Designs, realizes, validates and implements test tools, in-house and at supplier locations
  • Supports the supply chain with engineering expertise. This includes the analysis of parts for reliability, manufacturability, vendor qualification support, participates in supplier audits and supplier technical quality issues
  • Facilitates and may lead cross-functional improvement and other Operations projects from inception to completion.
  • Develops close relationships with Manufacturing, Logistics, Sourcing, service, PLM, Quality and New Product Development to adequately resolve technical conflicts.
  • Ensures that activities are carried out according to the principle of “Customer focus in all that we do”
  • Adheres to work safety, hygiene of work and other regulatory standards. Clean and maintain work area and consigned tools
  • Executes all activities taking the thermofisher 4I values (Integrity, Intensity, Innovation, Involvement) into account

The Requirements

  • Hbo or University degree in a technical discipline, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to create technical documentation and engineering reports
  • Must be able to work for extended period in clean room environment
  • Must in possession of a valid passport and travel regionally and internationally as required (up to 10% of working time)
  • Fluent in English and Dutch (verbal and in writing)
  • Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter who is productive with minimal supervision
