Job Description

Job Title:  Engineer -SPLUNK
Location: TRIL GTC
GCL:    C3
 

The suitable candidate must have strong skills on Splunk development and suggest methods to improve practices and processes on Splunk delivery. Experience on more than one tool (desired) and relevant experience of 5-7 years. Candidate should be able to work in 24x5 environment from office and with on call coverage during weekends (rotation basis). Must be ready and eager to work with end users as well as collaboratively with the internal team members.

Typical Accountability

  • Create user interfaces that will allows team to manage their own Splunk instances
  • Troubleshoot Splunk server and forwarder problems and issues.
  • Standardize Splunk forwarder deployment, configuration and maintenance in Linux and Windows platforms
  • Developing all the config file to integrate the logs and data structure
  • Work with third party application, hosting and CDN providers to integrate data feeds to a centralized Splunk platform
  • Developing the various level of dashboard and pivot, saved search like linked ,drilldown etc..
  • Collaborate with other internal teams such as Engineering, Security, and Compliance etc…
  • Troubleshoot Splunk indexers, search heads and forwarder problems
  • Build, customize and deploy Splunk apps as per internal customer needs
  • Create data retention policies and perform index administration, maintenance and optimization
  • Develop and maintain production quality dashboards, custom views, saved searches and alerts for Splunk Operations and for other clients as per their requirements
  • Create role-based access and SAML based SSO authentication for Splunk
  • Create and maintain architectural diagrams and other relevant documentations for the Splunk platform
  • Assist internal users of Splunk in designing and maintaining production quality dashboards
  • Arrange necessary trainings to Splunk internal customers
  • Design core scripts to automate Splunk maintenance and alerting tasks
  • Create presentation layers for Technical, Business and Executive Management showing environment operational health based on Key Performance Indicators
  • Interact with the data warehousing team regarding extracting the data and suggest the standard data format such that Splunk will identify most of the fields.
  • Knowledge about Splunk architecture and various components (indexer, forwarder, search head, deployment server), Heavy and Universal forwarder, License model.
  • Involved in standardizing Splunk forwarder deployment, configuration and maintenance across UNIX and Windows platforms.
  • Working on syslog, syslog-ng, and Splunk HTTP Event Collection (HEC).
  • Configuration management systems (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Chef, etc.)
  • Create Knowledge Objects.
  • Create advanced searches, reports, and visualizations, build dashboards.
  • Create field aliases, lookups, calculated fields, extractions using regex.
  • Create tags, event types, manage alerts and data inputs.
  • Creating Splunk apps for consumer data for applications and implementing and configuring these applications.
  • Install and manage forwarders, indexers, search heads, add and configure index and source types.
  • Create and manage configuration files like inputs, props, transforms, lookups, system profiles and map agents.
  • Query data in Splunk using SPL (Splunk Search Language).
  • Data ingestion through REST API or scripts
  • Working knowledge of XML
  • Experience with JavaScript, CSS, and HTML
  • Experience in Selenium Web driver

Education, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5 – 7 years of experience in Splunk development
  • Experience in handling Linux platform

Desirable

  • Lean Six Sigma Skills.
  • Experience in Stake holder coordination
  • ITIL V3 Certification
  • Experience with emerging technology, such as cloud, AIOps, and unified communications will be added advantage
