A fantastic opportunity has arisen within Siemens Mobility and we currently recruiting for a Electrification & Plant Engineering Manager to work for our Rail Electrification business. The role is to work with the Head of Engineering (Design and Delivery), to support the growth of the Electrification business, and lead the Low Voltage Design teams, Project Engineering (HV & LV), HV Commissioning and Engineering Support Services. This is a permanent role and would ideally be based out of our York office. What will be my Responsibilities? The Post Holder will Lead the functions the following Engineering functions LV Design and Delivery teams Project Engineering (HV and LV) Commissioning Engineering Support Services (BIM, CAD and document control) The Post Holder Responsibilities and Accountabilities are:- Focus on individual and team development to expand the team through recruiting, hiring, training and mentoring engineering staff as well as the completion of annual performance appraisals, career reviews and through the management of performance. Ensure that the technical and safety standards are maintained to all aspects of design work in order that successful project implementation and future reliability is achieved. Engage collaboratively with other engineering discipline managers and teams ensuring the design process is undertaken efficiently and effectively. Introduce innovative design tools to improve design efficiency and costs Act as Contract Engineering Manager and/or Contractors’ Responsible Engineer on allocated projects as directed. Review standards and procedures and make recommendations for improvements and assess impacts to Siemens. Provide support and guidance to Project Managers and Project Engineers on projects and assess staff requirements at each stage of the project. Evaluate the quality and technical accuracy of tenders and make recommendations to obtain the best available commercial award for the business Generate quality and technically accurate bid responses, backed up by and efficient programme and costs. Provide periodic reports to Siemens Senior Management Team regarding work tasks/activities and their subsequent progress. To assist with the design engineering aspects of test unit builds and pre-production builds for new product development. To prepare internal/external inspection and testing schedules to support testing and commissioning To ensure finished product and design has full Bill of Materials in line with Siemens digital substation and application design requirements Maintain and develop good relationships with customers, industry associations, suppliers, and partners. Encourages and develops good engineering links at all levels. Develop and implement strategies to improve business efficiency within the engineering domain, including departmental and functional strategies, process improvement, outsourcing, resourcing, technology, tooling and utilisation Definition and development of measures and metrics to provide leading and lagging indicators of departmental performance Monitor relevant technological developments and identify how such technologies may be utilised within our engineering domain and areas of expertise Maintain and develop excellent relationships with internal and external customers, industry associations, suppliers and Siemens business partners What Qualifications and Experience should I have? BSc, BEng or MEng degree in Electrical Engineering Chartered Engineer status Member of the IET or other Recognised Professional Body In depth knowledge of HV and LV power engineering within the railway infrastructure In depth experience in Low Voltage design & application for signalling and electrification projects Experience of managing Commissioning teams Experience with direct client interface and representing the business to external parties. Knowledge and experience with traction power installations, specific staff proficiencies, and current UK initiatives. Practical experience with the operational requirements of railway construction works. Strong management, organisational and leadership experience and proven capability to motivate high performing teams of people, aligned to business objectives. Flexible, innovative approach, able to evaluate and adapt alternative new technologies Strong leadership, motivational, and inter-personal skills including excellent communication and presentation. Excellent understanding of task, time and people management.
