Eaton is seeking an Engineering Specialist – BMS Battery Algorithm for its Power Electronics, Embedded Electronics, and Battery Center of Excellence (CoE) located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The position is eligible for a hybrid work setup. Position Overview: Eaton’s Power Electronics, Embedded Electronics, and Battery Center of Excellence (CoE) accelerates the company’s growth through the development of battery platforms that are battery-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable, as well as standardized design methodologies and tools that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provides a foundation for our business to more rapidly develop innovative products with energy storage. This individual will be responsible for BMS battery algorithm development, including modeling, algorithm designs, implementation, and validation, for various applications such as UPS or energy storage applications. This individual will also be responsible for driving the use and adoption of model-based techniques during the NPI process. This includes the use of Model in the Loop (MIL) and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) methodologies during the design and validation. In this function you will: Develop and implement battery management algorithms such as State of Charge (SoC), State of Health (SoH), thermal management, and life prediction Initiate and lead design reviews and technical discussions, including brainstorming Develop battery models for performance and lifetime to support algorithm needs Support battery cell and module testing for characterization Develop test plans and procedures for algorithm validation Validate the algorithms on HIL and lab Work closely with the battery system, electrical, and FW engineers to implement, validate and test the algorithms When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science from an accredited institution Minimum 7 years of engineering experience in Li-Ion battery algorithm development, including modeling, algorithm design, implementation, and validation Preferred Qualifications: MS or Ph.D. in engineering or science from an accredited institution Experience in model-based battery algorithm development (e.g., Simulink Coder) Experience in battery algorithm validation with Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) (e.g., OPAL-RT) Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members Design for Six Sigma certification Understanding of different types of Li-Ion battery technology, their performance, and characteristics Experience in developing physics-based and empirical models for battery modeling Experience with battery testing and characterization Experience in developing test plans to validate the algorithms and implementation Position Criteria: Self-motivated and goal-oriented individual.
