Eaton is seeking an Lead Engineer – Digital Controls for its Power Electronics, Embedded Electronics, and Battery Center of Excellence (CoE) located in Raleigh, North Carolina. The position is eligible for a hybrid work setup. Position Overview: Eaton’s Power Electronics, Embedded Electronics, and Battery Center of Excellence (CoE) accelerates the company’s growth through the development of battery platforms that are battery-agnostic, scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable, as well as standardized design methodologies and tools that can be adopted by multiple business units, which provides a foundation for our business to more rapidly develop innovative products with energy storage. This individual will be responsible for BMS battery algorithm development, including modeling, algorithm designs, implementation, and validation, for various applications such as UPS or energy storage applications. This individual will also be responsible for driving the use and adoption of model-based techniques during the NPI process. This includes the use of Model in the Loop (MIL) and Hardware in the Loop (HIL) methodologies during the design and validation. In this function you will: Develops digital control and protection algorithms and firmware for power electronics and battery management systems. Performs modeling and simulation for power electronics and and battery control development Implements, tests, and troubleshoots control firmware Establish system & sub-system level control requirements from functional specifications and application needs Plans and performs control algorithms and firmware development and validation on HIL and lab Creates technical reports and presentations Initiates and leads design reviews and technical discussions including brainstorming Stays current with the latest technologies When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science from an accredited institution Minimum 6 years of engineering experience in the digital control algorithm development for power electronics, and/or battery management systems Preferred Qualifications: MS or Ph.D. in engineering or science from an accredited institution Prefer 8+ years of engineering experience in the digital control algorithm development for power electronics, and/or battery management systems Experience in model-based algorithm development (e.g., Simulink Coder) Experience in validating the embedded software with Hardware-In-Loop (HIL) (e.g., OPAL-RT) Experience in developing physics-based and empirical models for battery modeling Experience with battery testing and characterization Experience with embedded software structure and C/C++ programming Experience with DSP, FPGA, or microcontrollers, and standard peripheral components Position Criteria: Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team-oriented, global, and diverse environment.
