Eaton’s Critical Power and Digital Infrastructure (CPDI) Division is currently seeking an Engineering Specialist - Energy Storage System to join our team! This position is based at our Raleigh, NC facility or can be based remotely. All candidates must currently reside within the United States and must work out of a United States remote location. Relocation benefits to Raleigh, NC will be provided for those interested within the United States only. Eaton’s Electrical Critical Power & Digital Infrastructure Division designs, manufactures, and services Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, batteries, and electronic-based products to ensure power reliability in the most demanding applications. Our employees deliver mission-critical solutions to our customers’ most challenging energy management requirements. Eaton’s Energy Transition products establish a footprint in grid ancillary and energy sustainability needs of our customers in European and North American region. Using building blocks that are scalable, cost-effective, and manufacturable as well as decades of standardized design methodologies that can be adopted by multiple legacy solution (e.g., UPS, Energy storage, PDU, and DCIM software), which provides a foundation for our business to develop innovative products more rapidly in the energy transition space. The Energy Storage System Engineering Specialist will be responsible for supporting control development, implementation, and validation for a wide range of energy storage power conversion and protection products. This role will be also responsible for executing plans for the commissioning and support of energy transition products in the field along with contributing to the platforming of development of those products particularly at the power system level. This includes the use Hardware in the Loop (HIL) methodologies during the design and validation on new products within the Eaton’s product portfolio. The position will be a key member of the CPS New Product Development Engineering with an emphasis on Special Projects and Advanced Technologies. In this role, you will: Develop Energy Transition inverters for UPS and battery energy storage applications Perform modeling and simulation for the power converters and system level controllers Implement, test, and troubleshoot high level controls and system interactions Establish system & sub-system level requirements from functional specifications and application needs Plan and perform design development and validation on HIL and in the lab Support and perform minimum viable product testing and demonstrations in the lab or at customer sites Create technical reports and presentations Initiate and lead design reviews and technical discussions including brainstorming Stay current with the latest technologies trends and apply knowledge to the development of control firmware for power When we embrace the different ideas, perspectives and backgrounds that make each of us unique, we — as individuals and as a company — are stronger. #LI-LS3 Qualifications Required (Basic) Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science from an accredited institution Minimum 7 years of related engineering experience UPS and energy storage inverter product development and implementation for behind-the-meter and grid level applications Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent Power electronics hardware subject matter expertise Working knowledge of Hardware-in-the-Loop hardware and software Experience working in diverse cultural situations with global customers and team members Demonstrated knowledge of engineering processes Experience with the different communications protocols used by Energy Transition products like CAN, Modbus, DNP3 Self-motivated and goal oriented individual Good communication and presentation skills Collaborative orientation, the ability to succeed in a highly team oriented, global, and diverse environment Consistently acts in an ethical, open, honest, trustworthy, and truthful manner Desire for innovation, new product development, program management … to make what matters work! IEEE 1547 Standards experience Familiarity with UL 1741 SA/SB and IEC 61850-7-420 standards for grid codes Knowledge of real-time operating systems and digital signal processing Why Eaton?
