Eaton Corporation is currently seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Counsel to join our team. This position is based at our Beachwood, OH facility.
The EHS Counsel position is responsible for providing legal support in the areas of (a) environmental, health and safety (EHS); (b) product safety, compliance and stewardship; (c) ESG (environmental, social, and governance) related support; and (d) real estate. This includes analyzing and providing counsel on various regulatory matters (domestic and international) and overall mitigating corporate exposure; identifying areas of legal risk and taking steps to ensure processes are in place to mitigate that risk; counseling facility managers and senior management and support functions in legal matters; providing legal training; supporting acquisitions and divestitures; leading litigation and related cost recovery/insurance matters; representing Eaton’s business in enforcement or regulatory matters before governmental agencies; and exercising professional judgment to protect the interests of the business both internally and externally. The candidate must also lead the legal aspects of EHS, ESG and product-based sustainability (footprint and handprint, and investor support/disclosures), and real estate strategic initiatives of the Company, including adoption of data-based/digital solutions related to the same.

In this role you will:
- Provide legal and strategic counsel to EHS personnel (at the plant, regional and corporate levels), and to other business leaders in order to ensure compliance with applicable EHS law and regulation and drive performance on EHS and sustainability efforts, furthering company growth in the power management space
- Partner with EHS personal to appropriately respond to noncompliance/incidents, remedy legacy liabilities and drive EHS programs
- Provide legal and strategic counsel for product-based compliance (such as “product stewardship” regulations similar to the EU’s REACH, RoHS and WEEE regulations).
- Provide legal and strategic counsel for real estate transactions - both general and environmental-based (from diligence, through negotiation and execution of sales/acquisition/or lease agreements).
- Facilitate legal trainings to ensure that practices, policies and activities of Eaton’s businesses meet legal and management requirements.
- Assist in litigation matters and represent Eaton’s business in enforcement or regulatory matters before governmental agencies
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
- Licensed Attorney in a minimum of one jurisdiction in the United States
- Minimum 5 years law firm or in-house related experience
- Must be legally eligible to work in the United States on an on-going basis without Company sponsorship
- No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates residing within 50 miles of Beachwood, OH will be considered for this position. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt from the geographical area limitation.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5 years law firm or in-house related experience for environmental, engineering and general real estate based disciplines
