YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Estimating Manager, are to: 

• Be responsible for the project estimation during all phases of capital projects ranging in values from 5 Million USD to over 30 Million USD, either in-house or through one or multiple external parties;
• Determine independently and execute estimating structures and workflows for project, within the project estimation framework;
• Work with project managers and engineers both upstream and downstream of front-end loading design to create meaningful scope decomposition to facilitate accurate estimates;
• Maintain knowledge bases and other data bases of historic project information from project analysis and evaluation, both detailed rate information as well as aggregated benchmarks;
• Conduct risk analysis sessions with project teams and stakeholders and assess contingency and allowances in accordance with corporate directives;
• Act as Subject Matter Expert during project reviews;
• Support the Group Head Project Services Planning in continuous improvement of tools and methods in alignment with the global cost estimating community, in order to optimize accuracy and effort;
• Work closely with external engineering contractors in order to ensure that estimates serve Bayer’s requirements regarding structures, benchmarking, project controlling and accuracy;
• Develop subject matter training material and trains project controllers, project managers, engineers and other stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least years 10+ of experience in project management and controlling OR Master's degree in Engineering, construction Sciences, Construction Management or other project management-related fields with at least 8+ years of experience in project management and controlling OR at least 15 years of experience in project management and controlling;
• Expert knowledge of cost estimation;
• Field experience for capital projects;
• In-depth knowledge of engineering, procurement and construction, and understanding of how these functions work together to meet project objectives;
• Advanced knowledge of databases;
• Excellent knowledge of risk assessment tools and techniques;
• Willingness to travel within the Bayer sites in North America and Latin America on a regular basis (25 – 50%) when working on projects outside of the hub areas;
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
• High degree of interpersonal skills and ability to work with a diverse set of stakeholders, to resolve conflicts in a constructive spirit and to communicate requirements and results to project contributors effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Highly preferred work experience in Pharmaceuticals and/or Biotech;
• AACE and/or PMI certification;
• Spanish and/or Portuguese language skills and experience in Latin American markets;
• Knowledge using Cleopatra estimating software.

This position can be residence-based in the following Tech Hub locations: Berkeley, CA; Boston, MA; Charlotte or Raleigh/Durham, NC; or Whippany, NJ
