In this vital role the Executive Director, Global Media, reports to the Head of Global Media and Content, and is responsible for overseeing Amgen’s $500M+ media investment.  This visionary leader, in partnership with brand leaders and agency partners, will shape Amgen’s media strategy, execution, and measurement to maximize impact and efficiency across channels and businesses.  This leader will create a roadmap to step change Amgen’s current capabilities in media across the short, mid, and long-term horizons, standing up new capabilities, attracting talent, driving innovation, and scaling best practices across businesses.

Responsibilities

  • Media performance: accountable for ensuring sound brand media strategy, execution, measurement, and optimization

  • Portfolio management: portfolio measurement and reporting, strategy, communication, and investment shift recommendations

  • Portfolio innovation: design and build pilots, lift and shift of innovation, scaling best practices

  • Learning agenda: partner with content and brand teams to ensure we have a clear learning agenda, understanding how to develop the right content for the right platform to deliver optimal ROI and content effectiveness

  • Owner of agency relationship: accountable for ensuring appropriate resourcing and talent, managing issue escalations/mitigations and negotiations

  • Owner of key partnerships: Build one-on-one relationships with Google, Facebook, and other platforms (as appropriate), marshalling indirect resources to achieve mutual goals with key partners.

  • Executive Alignment & Governance: Ongoing communication and alignment of media goals, strategy, performance, and decision making

  • Partnership and thought leadership with brand leads and CDA/decisions science

Basic Qualifications

  • Doctorate degree & 6 years of media experience OR

  • Master’s degree & 10 years of media experience OR

  • Bachelor’s degree & 12 years of media experience AND

  • 6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs or directing the allocation of resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10 to 15 years working across media strategy & execution, either in-house or as an agency lead, with a deep understanding of media strategy and execution to both healthcare professionals and consumers

  • Experience planning integrated campaigns with deep knowledge of end-to-end media planning processes including briefing, planning, buying, invoicing, tracking, and reporting

  • Ability to translate business goals into media strategy and manage execution, measurement, and optimization of plans

  • Experience launching capabilities, best practices, and new ways of working that enhanced media operations across the enterprise

  • Expertise in end-to-end media planning processes, working knowledge of media planning platforms and technology, and proven ability to lead cross-functional partners to craft and execute on enterprise-level media ops strategies

  • Intellectual capital and curiosity with 80/20 mindset and agility to prioritize and pivot based on evolving business objectives

  • Ability to influence without authority & communication skills through a collaborative approach as this individual will be expected to quickly build rapport and credibility at all levels throughout the organization, including senior management

  • Focus on teamwork, relationship-building and influencing others with exceptional ability to co-create and work collectively with various business leaders and cross-functional key stakeholders

  • Conceptual thinking and problem-solving skills with proven ability to navigate ambiguity, develop frameworks and distill complex information into concise and impactful messages/presentations
