Oncology is the largest therapeutic area within AstraZeneca and second highest cause of death globally, with AstraZeneca’s ambition to eliminate cancer as a cause of death. And Oncology Data Science is one of top strategic priorities for AstraZeneca Oncology R&D.

The Executive Director (Head) of Real World Evidence for Oncology Data Science & AI - Oncology R&D is a key leader that will own the design and implementation of the RWE strategy in Oncology R&D.

Your responsibilities will be:

• Developing and executing the Oncology RWE R&D strategy that enables the delivery of premier comprehensive solutions and capabilities in line with R&D strategic priorities.
• Create an RWE organization to support the design of all top priority clinical trials in the Late and Early Development Oncology Portfolios. This includes
• Have visibility across the Early and Late portfolio and how priorities change over time
• Allocate RWE resources strategically to the key programs to support the growth of the entire Oncology organization
• Work closely with tumor heads in Biometrics to support the optimal design of key studies
• Work closely with Global Clinical Heads to jointly execute and protect key assets and the investment in key studies
• Being accountable for the proper use of RWE across the entire Early and Late Oncology portfolios
• Collaborating with the Oncology Business Unit and BioPharma Business Unit RWE groups and representing the group's needs and vision in collaborations.
• Acting as an authority in the RWE decision making processes.
• Crafting a positive team climate of continuous improvement and recruiting, leading, developing and motivating staff to achieve objectives, and delivering competitive advantage through clear linkages between investment in people and business performance.
• Proactively engaging in thought leadership with external key opinion leaders and cross-industry consortia and working groups to develop strong alliances to use and promote optimised use of data, information and knowledge.
• Becoming the authority in RWE in Oncology R&D, influencing the overall Oncology R&D strategy via the use of RWE

Required Skills:

• MSc/PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science relevant field with experience in pharma/healthcare or other relevant area
• Conceptual, analytical and critical thinking
• Previous experience with RWE/RWD and their application to design clinical trials
• Creative, innovative, solution-focused
• Curious, embraces new ways of problem solving, new ideas, new ways of working
• Managerial experience of both data scientists and engineering teams
• Strong communication skills and ability to build relationships
• Ability to serve as “translator” between scientific problems to data science solutions
• Ability to apply expertise to complex problems, problem solving and with a quality focus
• Proven leadership promoting motivation and empowering others to accomplish individual, team and organizational objectives
• Experience working with and architecting analytics solutions in AWS
• Experience defining strategies and approaches to AI/ML model monitoring, maintenance and management
• Experience delivering AI/ML models from conception, through development and into production
