Virtual Engineering Centre
The Virtual Engineering Centre (VEC) is a Research Centre newly established within the University Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence at XJTLU to conduct the-state-of-the-art research with industrial and commercial applications, with a mission to become a major player in mainstream research and development in engineering, science and technology of national and international excellence. Due to fast expansion, the University is to appoint an Experimental Officer at a technician or equivalent level to meet the demand for the Centre’s rapid development and growth.
Reporting via the VEC Centre Manager to the Director of VEC, the Experimental Officer will provide maintenance of the IT equipment and system support for the daily activities of research and project development.
Responsibilities and Duties

Reports via the VEC Centre Manager to the Director of VEC with maintenance and support of the IT equipment and systems in the Centre.

Keeps the IT systems up to date to meet the demands of research activities for appropriate functionality and performance in hardware, software and data flow.

Provides desktop help and on-site assistance to staff and students with technical and laboratory issues in IT systems and computer peripherals in the Centre.

Collects IT facility information and keeps formation of data records of equipment, and maintains information archives for project management.

Conducts research and development (e.g. via undertaking a part-time Research Degree in a relevant area in Computing Science and Technology registered at XJTLU where appropriate).

Performs other tasks that may be required by the Centre Manager and the Director of VEC.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential

Bachelor or higher degree in Computing Science and Technology or IT related subjects

Good oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese

Good personal organisation and time-management skills

A clear, logical thinker

Confident, assertive, proactive and able to take responsibility for own actions

Well-developed cultural awareness

A flexible approach to working

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Experience and/or knowledge in 3D computing and/or AI systems

Experience and/or skills in C/C++ and/or scripting (e.g. Perl, Python and Lua) programming with OpenGL standards

Knowledge and/or skill in 3D engine, GPU, and/or AI platform
