The Challenge:

In the Materials cluster of DSM the department Regulatory Affairs & Product Safety (RA & PS) is a Center of Expertise. It is the mission of the department RA & PS to service the business with advice and documentation with regard to Regulatory Affairs and Product Safety. The strategy for market driven growth & innovation and growth in emerging economies, has led to increased focus on RA & PS. As the manufacturing and trading of all the products in the Materials products takes place in all parts of the world, they are subject to international and country specific legislation and rules. For (raw) material safety in particular the Global Harmonization System (GHS) is the global leading legislation.

The Position:
  • You are responsible for providing our stakeholders within the Materials cluster of DSM with compliant information on raw material safety, registration and applications (e.g.food contact).
  • You assess the available safety information of our (raw) materials (e.g. (eco)-toxicity data, physical chemical data) and you can assess the belonging legislation. You handle the assessed data in our Intelligent Authoring system to create internal Safety Data Sheets and Workplace Safety Cards for the different regions in the world.
  • You perform chemical inventory checks and assess food contact statements on raw materials.
  • This information you generate forms also the basis for our Finished Product SDS, Product Registrations and Product Stewardship documents and statements.
  • The service you provide is for several businesses within the Materials cluster, with a strong focus on DSM Resins and Functional Materials. You proactively advice the SHE community and Research & Technology on safety and the outlook on safety. Our department is a global RA & PS team and will work (virtually) with RA & PS colleagues from locations in the United States, Taiwan, China, Japan and Europe.

  • To be successful in this role you show exemplary behavior on Compliance and Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE).
  • In this position you report to the Global Manager Raw materials Safety, Registration and Applications located in Zwolle (the Netherlands).
  • The position is in Shanghai.

The main tasks include

  • Contribute to global Raw material safety, registration and food contact compliance within the Materials cluster keeping a close eye on the effects on Finished Product safety and Product Registration/Application.
  • Proactive support of the SHE community and Research & Technology about safety information and substances of (very high) concern giving information, statements and providing documentation.
  • Support for the RA&PS department in reviewing the development of relevant legislation
The Ideal:
  • A bachelor’s or a master’s degree with 3+ years relevant experience within Raw material or Product Safety experience
  • Relevant background in polymers/chemistry
  • Relevant knowledge in Global Harmonized System
  • Basic knowledge and experience on human and environmental toxicology with regards to Product & Raw material Safety
  • Have a strong affinity with ICT systems and processes
  • Affinity with quality and safety
  • Affinity with different cultures
  • Ability to work in a dynamic environment and to handle complex situations
  • Strong organization skills
  • A fast learner, team player, customer oriented and good communication skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
