Microsoft maintains a global tax planning and compliance strategy that is administered and coordinated at the Microsoft Corporate level, as part of Corporate Finance and Administration, under the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Company. This set-up assures proper coordination and implementation of appropriate policies and procedures.
Tax & Trade is responsible for Worldwide Tax and Trade Reporting, Compliance, and Planning, including the technology and process functions to support the coordination of the worldwide tax and trade functions.
Export Control Manager is part of the Microsoft Worldwide Tax and Trade Organization, and this role will report to Global Export Control Director and will be responsible for engaging with the key business partners and stakeholders within Microsoft and executing and managing export compliance programs. This role will require collaboration with the business partners and stakeholders in Microsoft research and development space to enable the business while comply with the applicable laws in the jurisdictions Microsoft operates.
Candidates must have excellent organizational and collaboration skills, excellent subject-matter expertise, a high degree of adaptability, and the ability to work independently with general guidance and as a team player.

Responsibilities

The Key Responsibilities of this role:
  • Work with global export control team members to implement global trade compliance programs
  • Collaborate and provide regulatory guidance in compliance with applicable export control laws and regulations and company policies to support functional stakeholders as follows:
  • Deliver best in class in-house consultative services to assigned business partners
  • Execute global export authorization processes and strategies in coordination with technology teams
  • Manage export license and approval applications for submittal to applicable authorities in accordance with applicable export control laws and regulations in the jurisdiction where our technology research and development are undertaking
  • Be proactively engage with technology research and development team through regular strategic business engagement meetings
  • Review proposals, contracts, and/or business cases to ensure compliance with applicable export control regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as trade focal point and trusted advisor when engaging with the functional stakeholders to effectively respond to changing business and regulatory environments
  • Partnership with the technology teams to provide day-to-day assistance, communications, briefings, awareness, and develop and manage compliance training
  • Oversee research and development activities in EMEA (including EU, UK, Middle East, Africa) to ensure compliance with both export control laws and regulations in both US and the jurisdictions where such activities undertake.

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 2-years’ experience working in an export compliance function with preference of EU export control laws and regulations.
  • Strong computer science and engineering knowledge and expertise are preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or law is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate issues or risks and identify a practical solution to the business.
  • Able to leverage technology knowledge and export control expertise to deal with complex business issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent judgment and analytical skills.
  • Requires a high degree of judgement, professional ethics, integrity, strong sense of responsibility and the will to follow through on commitments are critical attributes in this position.
  • Self-motivated, self-driven and result oriented.
  • Strong belief in teamwork, support team goal over individual goals, readily collaborate with others, recognize and value others’ contributions for team’s success.
  • Ability to prioritize among demanding and sometimes conflicting requirements
