Job Description

Microsoft Capacity Supply Chain and Provisioning (CSCP) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. CSCP delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform. As Microsoft's cloud business continues to grow the ability to deploy new offerings and HW infrastructure on time, in high volume with high quality and lowest cost is of paramount importance. To achieve this goal CSCP is looking for dynamic, highly motivated Quality Engineer to lead complex new product introductions (NPI) through an Infrastructure Life Cycle Management Process that focuses on getting engineering teams, operations teams and supply chain partners to effectively plan, produce, and ramp to volume production. 
We are looking for a passionate, high energy individual to help build the servers that powers the world’s largest online services 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute reliability qualification plans based on product lifecycle requirements while interfacing with design and manufacturing partners and external suppliers 
  • Develop, with other functional disciplines, customer usage models and translate understanding of the customer into practical reliability test specifications 
  • Use statistical analysis to provide meaning to reliability test data along with determining trends or problem areas. 
  • Participate in component vendor selection activity and drive component qualification activity for components that are critical to Microsoft product requirements 
  • Use knowledge of manufacturing process capability as well as system-level performance requirements to establish Critical-to-Reliability performance metrics 
  • Through lab sampling and analysis, monitor product performance in the field, understand product issues and drive failure analysis and corrective action with the appropriate partner engineering teams 

Qualifications

  • Masters or PhD in Materials Engineering or equivalent 
  • 10 years’ experience in a professional engineering laboratory environment and background in reliability testing and analysis 
  • Deep understanding of statistical sampling methods. 
  •  Deep understanding of root cause/corrective action methods to identify contributing factors of production defects. 
  • Understands server microprocessor architectures, including the operation of related subsystems, interfaces, and components. 
  • In Depth knowledge of reliability test methods. 
  • In Depth knowledge in the physics of failure for ASIC, PCB assembled materials 
  • In Depth knowledge of AC/DC, DC/DC power architectures.   
  • In Depth knowledge of industry reliability test methods and controls.   
  • In depth knowledge of server components. 
  • Able to communicate effectively in written and oral manner, so that all stakeholders have clear understanding of issues and metrics 
  • Can use and apply complex statistics to evaluate product reliability and highlight potential product risks 
  • Has strong communication and project management skills
