Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Farm Manager, are to:

 

  • Be responsible for all areas of vegetable crop growth and development in open fields;
  • Areas of crop care includes; land preparation, pest management strategies, nutrition and irrigation management;
  • Ensure trials are planted with geo-positioning (GIS/GPS);
  • Pilot UAV flights to assist in data collection and monitor crop performance;
  • Coordinate with the breeding team to ensure delivery of high-quality crop;
  • Develop and execute pest management, plant nutrition and irrigation program;
  • Develop a crop rotation cycle and land preparation guidelines for the farm;
  • Be responsible for the procurement of farm inputs each crop cycle and communicate resources needs to the station manager;
  • Assist in hiring, training and supervising FTE's and temporary farm workers;
  • Be aware of compliance and enforcement of company, EPA and OSHA safety regulations;
  • Proactively seek and participate in available company training, in an effort to develop and advance knowledge base and skill set;
  • Communicate effectively with management, employees, and coordinate growing activities with breeders and research associates;
  • Ensure safe and proper storage of agriculture chemicals and provide regular monthly report on crop production activities;
  • Assist in facilitating off station breeders and scientists’ field, also facilitate and accommodate regular field day trials in coordination with breeders, TD/sales personnel.

Required Qualifications:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural or related field;
  • Minimum one-year previous farm operations experience including crop care, farm equipment management, maintenance scheduling, and basic horticultural/agronomy;
  • Excellent observation, analysis and organization abilities;
  • Computer Skills: Knowledgeable in Microsoft programs, i.e. Word, Excel, Power Point, etc.;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Possess a CA pesticide applicator license or the ability to secure within six months of start date;
  • Ability to lift up to 60lbs;
  • Federal regulations from the Department of Transportation cover this position and mandate the passing of certain pre-employment requirements, such as a background check, drug test and physical;
  • Willingness to obtain UAV piloting license within the first six months.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience in growing a variety of vegetable crops in open fields.
