Job Description

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Scientist I, are to: 

 

  • Perform studies and serve as Good Laboratory Practice Study Director for a wide range of studies to determine the behavior of BCS products in food, feed or environmental matrices;
  • Understand at an expert level radio-chemistry (C14) laboratory study guidelines to support international product registrations;
  • Prepare study protocols that meet these requirements using efficient test methods and state-of-the-art methodologies;
  • Solve study related problems at the lab level with minimal direction from a more senior level scientist. Seek out and utilize expertise from within and outside the company to facilitate problem resolution when appropriate;
  • Take overall responsibility for the successful completion of the study and begin to independently solve day to day problems in study conduct thereby ensuring that studies progress to required deadlines;
  • Evaluate data and prepare final study reports, taking responsibility for accuracy and compliance with the applicable regulations to ensure the quality and integrity of the study;
  • Seek expertise and state of the art techniques from within and outside the company to facilitate problem resolution when necessary;
  • Maintain well organized supporting data files that are suitable for internal and external (regulatory) auditing;
  • Coordinate and review work of external contractor research organizations and provide guidance and support by taking overall responsibility for successful completion of the study;
  • Assume supervisory responsibility for one to two team members as needed;
  • Collaborate with other functions in Environmental Safety (EnSa) and Research and Development (R&D) on shared projects. Participate in the Environmental Safety Assessment Team process for area of expertise;
  • Contribute to the development of compound “issue documents;
  • Represent, as necessary, BCS externally at industry meetings or at discussions with regulatory agencies.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Metabolomics or related field with at least one year of relevant experience; OR 
  • Master of Science in Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Metabolomics or related field with at least two years of relevant experience; OR
  • Bachelor of Science with at least five years of relevant experience in Environmental Science, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Metabolomics or related field;
  • Ability to conduct research and contributes to research projects, technologies, publications, intellectual property or trade secrets;
  • Must be able to work independently;
  • Excellent organization skills with regard to the collection, presentation and archive of experimental data;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Ability to train less experienced scientists, mentor and develop junior staff and promote team-based approaches to BCS development programs.
