Job Description


Location: Remote position providing field support across North America and supplementary support for Europe (Boston, MA location strongly preferred).

Position Summary: This opening is for a dynamic, self-motivated and experienced individual to support the Genome Editing portfolio as a Field Application Scientist (FAS). As a member of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Cell Biology FAS team, the candidate will work with a multi-disciplinary matrix team that includes commercial representatives, R&D scientists, product management, and marketing development specialists. Primary responsibilities will be to support customers adapting high throughput genome editing technologies in their laboratories, with a focus on CRISPR lentiarray libraries. The successful candidate for this position will serve as the technical expert on our genome modulation and editing portfolio, providing pre and post sales product support, leading seminars and demos, and running internal and external training as needed.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Introduce customers to Thermo Fisher Scientific’s genome editing reagents and services capabilities as well as the broader functional genomics capabilities including siRNA and CRISPR screening libraries through seminars and consultative discussions
  • Provide remote and in person technical assistance in response to customer inquiries or escalations (eg. assay development and product applications)
  • Participate in developing and managing pilot projects with clients through on-site visits and teleconference communication
  • Work with internal teams to develop and update workflow applications and educational content for customer training in the form of videos, seminars, training manuals etc.
  • Represent the Cell Biology division of Thermo Fisher Scientific at conferences and vendor shows to present products and gather customer feedback
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related field
  • 3+ years of hands on experience with high throughput gene editing, RNAi or other functional genomics techniques
  • Has extensive experience running and optimizing cell-based high throughput screens
  • Understands the workflows and challenges of customers using genome editing technologies
  • Demonstrates judgment, tact and diplomacy in dealing with internal and external customers as well the ability to handle confidential and proprietary information
  • This position requires extensive contact with customers and therefore outstanding written and oral communication skills are required
  • The ability to work independently with little supervision and a strong work ethic is critical
  • Works in an office and lab environment. May be required to stand for long periods of time while performing duties
  • Ability to travel up to 70% within North America and occasional travel to Europe will be required
