YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Field Innovation Scientist, are to: 

 

  • Align key deliverables across our field-testing partners and manage the adoption, and optimization of innovations in vegetable testing, including, but not limited to, implementation of imagery solutions to drive efficiency and effectiveness in data collection;
  • Collaborate with a global cross-functional team focused on translating innovative ideas related to improving plant reproductivity into conceptual designs, prototypes, proposals and help implement projects at our production locations;
  • Partner with Legal and IP teams to ensure that all research and related efforts are following IP valuation processes;
  • Collaborate globally across various teams within Bayer including, Testing Center of Excellence (COE), Automation and engineering Teams, and commercial to drive the development of innovative seed production technologies and explore new applications across veg crops and functions;
  • Provide regular and timely updates on project status, key milestones, challenges and next steps to key stakeholders and leadership;
  • Drive new technology related to precision testing, implementation of automation and digitization in seed production and testing, and other strategies that accelerate genetic gain and can be implemented at the field level;
  • Support Breeding and Field-Testing teams to improve data quality and completeness as it relates to QA/QC, plot designs, testing location information;
  • Work with testing teams to improve testing footprint as per Bio zones and data quality;
  • Manage budgets and resources needed for project development and team support;
  • Maximize people and team’s performance through employee development, including growth opportunities for key high potential individuals, strong succession plans and change management efforts to prepare for future transformation within the function and workforce;
  • Influence team development including coaching and mentoring and implementation of other personal development programs for each team member where applicable;
  • Participate as member of regional management team and use problem solving skills to support the organization.

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor of Science with at least 10 years of experience (will be considered) OR Master of Science with at least eight years of relevant experience OR Ph.D. in Horticulture, Agronomy, Crop Science, Engineering, or related field with at least four years of relevant experience;
  • Experience analyzing and presenting complex data with proven problem-solving abilities;
  • Strong teamwork, influencing, and organizational skills to interact with regional team members as well as Global teams, communicating complex technical information in a clear and concise manner;
  • Demonstrated abilities to develop project plans, analyze and interpret data;
  • Ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based environment;
  • Manages multiple projects and priorities;
  • Develop talent and effectively leads managers through complex situations;
  • Proven leadership skills and ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to effectively achieve business results;
  • Capacity to communicate and work effectively with all management levels in a multi-cultural organization;
  • Strong strategic, statistical and analytical skills and understanding of how to apply them to achieve business results;
  • Demonstrated innovative experience.
  • This role will be located in Woodland, CA or Chesterfield, MO.
  • Relocation may be provided for the role.
