Purpose of Position

The role exists to support the sector(s) for which the holder has responsibility in the preparation, analysis and understanding of financial information.

The role reports to the Senior Finance Business Partner - Sectors and will work closely with key stakeholders within the applicable sectors - notably supporting the Sector Managing Directors and their central teams. The role is also responsible for co-ordination with the Regional and Stream finance business partners and for collaboration with Group Finance.

Location

The role will be office-based located in the UK with national travel dependent upon business requirements.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

The Finance Analyst will be allocated responsibility, in whole or in part, for one or more sectors within the business as directed by the Senior Finance Business Partner - Sectors 

  • Provide detailed analysis to support key account management for the sectors
  • Provide sound business insight to the sectors leadership based on market analysis
  • Ensure proactive finance involvement and challenge in key sector decisions.
  • Collate results for all aspects of the sectors, gathering this data from regions and streams to create and distribute overall performance summaries to key stakeholders
  • Collect, review and analyse current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of sales, revenue and gross profit, highlighting trends and causes of unexpected variances
  • Challenge month-end performance and work with stream and regional finance teams to understand performance gaps and suggest actions to drive improved Sector outcomes
  • Monthly commentary on Sector results and analysis/insight in response to stakeholder requests.
  • Collaborate with and influence Stream, Regional and Group finance teams to improve data flows and quality and consistency of Sector financial information.
  • Propose and develop new financial processes and analytic outputs to support Sector reporting and commercial insight.
  • Work with financial systems and data integrity teams to improve quality of information and optimise processes to identify and resolve Sector data issues.
  • Undertake market analysis and research to understand business models and support identification of business opportunities
  • Predict financial out-turns, model the impact of management decisions and proactively engage with Sector and Stream management to understand and influence those decisions
  • Develop methodologies and analysis to support and track progress of strategic initiatives
  • Responsible for key Budget/Planning assumptions and building the budgets and financial plans as appropriate for the sectors
  • Support Senior Business Partner – Sectors in the planning and coordination of all Quarterly forecasting and Annual Planning exercises
  • Prepare presentations for Senior Management Team meetings
  • Attend Sector and Commercial Management meetings and present monthly results as necessary
  • Provide ad-hoc Analysis on Sector(s) performance and projections as requested by Senior management and/or Senior FBP - Sectors

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Qualified to degree level or similar, with an accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA or ACA) and commercial experience. 
  • Confident, capable and credible with effective communication, influencing and persuasiveness skills
  • Commercially astute, focused on adding value, ideally with relevant sector/industry experience
  • Team player with positive ‘can do’ and proactive attitude, solution oriented and goal driven
  • Consultative and collaborative in approach
  • Previous commercial finance (analytic or partnering) experience 
  • Confident designing and building new processes and procedures
  • Ability to build lasting relationships with business leaders and managers
  • Excellent prioritisation & organisation skills
  • Comfortable in an environment of evolving and changing processes & priorities    
  • Computer literate, with strong Excel/Office skills and ability to use or learn SAP, Salesforce, Tableau, Crystal Reporting and other tools
  • Ideally worked in global, matrix, corporate environment of similar scale to BSI
