The Margin Strategy and Investment Optimization finance team (MSIO) is an exciting and fast-evolving finance team at the forefront of Microsoft’s Cloud-first strategy. We are looking for a talented and motivated individual to help shape the future of our cloud products.

The team’s charter is to build out end to end Microsoft Cloud Infrastructure while driving down unit cost of capacity, ensuring cloud services achieve both profit and gross margin growth. As a crucial member of the team you’ll also support long term bets and drive competitive intelligence to keep Microsoft Cloud ahead of competition. All while enhancing transparency into Cloud Infrastructure investments, safeguarding shareholder interest.

Responsibilities

The Windows COGS Planning team is responsible for the gross margin (GM) health of the Windows business and forward-looking alignment with revenue teams. The Windows GM Strategy & LRP Finance Manager is a critical part of this team, ensuring the Windows business achieves its gross margin targets by proactively managing the COGS P&L with a future-looking lens focusing on trends and frameworks to align costs to revenue in a sustainable way.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has curiosity to learn the Windows business and wants to make impact through strong partnership with key finance and engineering stakeholders to help define margin strategy and long-term planning goals.

This role is a great opportunity to provide:

  • Financial Insights: Continuously improve and evolve GM insights garnered through financial results and KPIs with goal of influencing/impacting business in positive manner and crisp story telling
  • Strategic: Develop frameworks to accelerate, simplify, and scale Windows COGS modeling and storytelling efforts.
  • Partnerships: Partner with Revenue Finance, Business Development, Engineering and other teams to drive product profitability and frame clear Windows GM strategy
  • Decision Support: Support end-to-end product planning, long-term steady state profitability strategies. Articulate findings into appropriate deliverables to facilitate executive decision making across business and finance leaders

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, economics or related field, MBA or the equivalent work experience to an MBA preferred
  • 4+ years of relevant experience with progressive advancement within your discipline. Technology, investment banking, or strategy consulting experience preferred.
  • Passionate about the technology industry, and ability to engage in technical discussions
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking
  • Deep modeling capabilities and ability to work with financial systems
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity and uncertainty in a fast-evolving business
  • Comfort working at multiple altitudes, from strategic/high-level projects to detailed COGS analysis
  • Proven leadership skills, with demonstrated results in proactively driving and delivering high value/high-impact project results through both individual and v-team efforts
  • Strong partnering capabilities, with the ability to influence others without direct authority and appropriately push back when required
  • Executive level oral and written communication skills - ability to communicate complex analysis in a simple way
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines
  • High level of self-motivation; ability to quickly identify what needs to be accomplished and resourcefulness to get things done
