The role

Within the Transport Business Unit (“TBU”) of Booking.com, the Finance team have an exciting opportunity for a career-driven individual who can work autonomously, take ownership and responsibility, work with stakeholders around the business, and make a real contribution to the role Finance plays within the overall business.

The role of Financial Accountant will be to provide accounting expertise, control ownership and support to the team at Booking.com TBU.

The individual will be responsible for the delivery of a variety of accounting activities and month end deliverables, in accordance with local and US GAAP and relevant legislation, as well as ensuring that TBU are reporting its financials in an accurate and timely manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the reconciliation of specified balance sheet accounts, posting of journal entries, and maintenance of complete and accurate general ledger in accordance with accounting principles
  • Maintenance of high-quality reporting schedules to support key balance sheet accounts and facilitate effective review by senior management and provide insight
  • Analyse, compile and verify financial information and create financial reports and accounting statements so that the extended leadership team has accurate and timely information for making financial decisions. These reports may include profit and loss statements, balance sheets, cash flow, debtor and creditor listings, and from time to time regulatory reports and filings
  • Be a subject matter expert for all processes within your area of responsibility and provide relevant technical accounting expertise to business stakeholders within these areas to help them develop revenue and expense budgets, understand financial reports, and manage their financial responsibilities
  • Be responsible for the monthly (as well as quarterly and annual) ledger closing processes, including preparation of journal entries, accruals, prepayments, payroll & intercompany transactions (as relevant), reconciliation of general ledger accounts, detailed supporting analysis and relevant documentation, and review of various components of the balance sheet and profit and loss account during the closing procedures
  • Proactively support in covering all compliance requirements, i.e. Sox, tax, statutory and statistical filings and audits, highlight issues and recommend process improvements where possible
  • Supporting internal & external audits and inquiries

 Skills and Experience 

  • CIMA (preferred), ACCA & ACA qualified considered if relevant  
  • 3+ years post qualification experience in industry preferred
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic; self-directed and resourceful
  • Problem-solving and can-do attitude
  • Solution-oriented and result driven
  • Proactive, flexible and capable of working independently as well as working in a team
  • Good communication and analytical skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Language: English
  • Systems: Microsoft Applications & Excel
