Job Description

Reporting to the compliance specialist, the Fisheries Technician will be responsible for assisting with fish passage studies;
and in capturing, counting and holding target fish species at fishway traps, as well as transport of fish by truck for stocking. Candidate will report to site in Waterville, ME.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with fish passage studies;
  • Assist in capturing, counting and holding target fish species at fishway traps, as well as transport of fish by truck for stocking;
  • Monitor fishways for proper operation consistent with Operation and Maintenance plans;
  • Monitor eelways for proper water flow, remove debris, change batteries for water systems etc.;
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure that all data collected are accurate and complete.
  • At times will require longer than 8 hour work days.

Required Skills:

  • Must be highly motivated and have the ability to work independently and cooperatively with others;
  • Ability to keep data organized and error free;
  • Must have good time management skills;
  • Must be able to identify safety and environmental hazards, and then prepare and follow job safety plans appropriate for all work;
  • Must make safety the highest priority in performing all work activities;
  • Pre-employment drug testing required;
  • Valid driver’s license required;
  • Post-secondary education preferred, and not be currently enrolled;
