Job Summary

Become a part of a new and exciting team and hotel in San Antonio!

Set to open in the autumn of 2020, the newly rebranded and revitalized Marriott San Antonio Airport Hotel will be reimagined with a fresh layout, flooring, furnishings and bathrooms in all 365 guest rooms.  An expanded 16,700 square feet of meeting space will include a 5,400 square-foot ballroom, and multiple meeting areas and breakout rooms.  The first floor will be gutted, expanded, and rebuilt with raised ceilings, more lobby space, and a new outdoor area with an extensive patio bar and pool.

Additional upscale enhancements include a state-of-the-art fitness center and the M Club, a VIP lounge for members of Marriott’s Bonvoy Membership program who have earned Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite and Ambassador Elite status.  The hotel will elevate food and beverage offerings through indoor and outdoor dining, grab-and-go services, a restaurant and lounge with communal or private dining seating.

A competitive compensation package will include base salary with bonus potential, full benefits package to include medical, dental, vision, and 401(k), and vacation, sick, and holiday pay.  This role is scheduled to begin on February 1, 2020.

PURPOSE AND PERFORMANCE GOALS

Meets and exceeds revenue goals by developing new accounts and growing current hotel accounts in a profitable and win-win selling approach.  Responsible for successful and growing relationships within hotel accounts to assure customers remain loyal and book future business with hotel/company.  Uses direct selling and solicitation efforts for seeking out new business and investigating developments in the community. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned):

  • Direct sales:  Targets appointment-oriented sales calls to ensure a successful direct sales program, in accordance with goals established by department budget and marketing plan.  Must have own reliable transportation and posses a valid state driver's license in order to make sales calls.
  • Key account management:  Maximizes current hotel key accounts by identifying and capturing those that offer revenue growth.
  • New account development:  Captures competitor's accounts through networking, research, TravelClick reports and reader board surveys in order to target and solicit those most probable to generate new business.
  • Plans and implements an on-going targeted account development "hit list" in order to create new revenue and acquire valuable hotel contacts, and contracts.
  • Continually targets and prospects for new business through telemarketing, individual creativity, relationship building, community involvement and innovation.
  • Yield management:  Utilizes yield management techniques by profitably negotiating room rates and function space commitments in order to enhance the hotel's financial performance.
  • Account service and management:  Maintains well-documented, accurate, organized and up-to-date data management system in order to service client and employer in the most expedient, organized and knowledgeable manner.
  • Develops strong customer relations through frequent communication and the use of professional, courteous and ethical interpersonal interaction.
  • Develops customer profiles and maintains an effective trace system, including trace dates and references, in order to best meet client needs, resulting in superior account service and increased revenues.
  • Promptly follows-up on all customer needs and inquiries in an efficient and expedient manner.
  • Product knowledge:  Conducts research, surveys, personal investigation and studies market place and territory in order to effectively capitalize on the hotel's strengths and competitor's weaknesses and capabilities.
  • Time management:  Focuses on revenue-producing activity and maximizes selling time by dedicating time on direct sales efforts.
  • Assures the sales teams involvement in hotel and community activities, making sure sales staff members are well known inside and outside the hotel.
 In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of the following supportive functions, with the percentage of time performing each function based upon the particular requirements of the company.
  • Achieves activity goals as established by management and completes all reports and assignments in an accurate and timely fashion.
  • Contributes to the hotel's overall sales effort during planning and strategy phases through research and knowledge input.
  • Sets the appropriate example by arriving to work by 8:00 a.m. and maintaining hours which demonstrate commitment and dedication to personal and hotel financial goals.
  • Community/trade involvement:  Actively participates in those community and trade organizations that most benefit the hotel's exposure to the community and the hotel's bottom line.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary by management.
  • Oversees hotel operations serving as Manager on Duty for specified shift(s) on a periodic basis.
  • Maintains a continuous open-door policy to answer team member questions needing immediate attention.
  • Implement procedures to enhance or support various administrative or communications challenges.
 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for the supervision of employees in the sales, catering and events office.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Bachelor degree or university program certificate and three years related experience as a sales team leader.


LANGUAGE SKILLS

Excellent speech communication skills are required to communicate both in person and via telephone with guests, associates and corporate contacts in a professional and extensive manner.  Excellent literacy is required.  Must be able to both assimilate and generate explicit and concise documents for publication within the hotel and management company environment.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate amounts such as discounts, percentages, package breakdowns, and the ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


REASONING ABILITY

Must be able to make appropriate judgments regarding the solving of practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete and abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  Must be knowledgeable in all aspects of the sales, catering and events business, including service, room styles, and services offered, menu design, set up and tear down.
