Amgen is seeking a Specialist Software Engineer to help Amgen’s Process Development team deliver and sustain highly strategic applications.  This role will help unlock the potential of computational modeling and simulation, enable advancements in drug manufacturing using AI, and bring new capabilities in support of automating regulatory submissions. In this role, you will be working with modeling & simulation engineers to develop modeling tools and infrastructure to create virtual designs of products and processes.  You will work with mechanical engineers and scientists to bring innovative machine vision capabilities to fruition.  And you will work semantic modelers and data engineers leveraging the Enterprise Data Lake to advance automation of regulatory submissions.     

The key responsibilities include architecture & design definition, full stack development, Linux Administration of AWS instances, and DevOps support.

Successful candidates will have the requisite technical skills; the ability to absorb new domain-specific concepts quickly; and eagerness to learn; high personal standards of efficiency and quality while delivery in quick intervals; and the passion to contribute in a collaborative environment.

Key Activities for the Software Engineer

  • Instantiate and support compliant infrastructure in AWS to enable POCs and other strategic IS capabilities. 
  • Develop proof of concepts (POCs) and advance them through the IS solutions lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Modeling Engineers & Data Scientists to develop, test and maintain mathematical modeling infrastructure and applications based on OOP principles
  • Write unit, integration, and regression tests to ensure correctness
  • Write clean code, from scratch or by refactoring existing code
  • Apply OOP principles, including software design patterns and SOLID design principles, as well as clean code programming practices
  • Handle codebase, run issues/tickets, maintain documentation
  • Provide DevOps support

Basic Qualifications:

Master’s degree

OR

Bachelor’s degree and 2 years of Information Systems experience

OR

Associate degree and 4 years of Information Systems experience

OR

High school diploma / GED and 6 years of Information Systems experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • BS or MS in computer science, engineering, applied math/statistics, or computational sciences (or related fields)
  • Proficient in Python
  • Proficient in Linux
  • Proficient using and modifying Open-Source solutions.
  • Experience with Python tools for scientific computing (numpy, scipy, pandas, scikit-learn, scikit-image, etc.)
  • Experience working in biotech or other highly regulated environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with equation driven programming like differential equations, partial differential equations, and numerical methods is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for working in an interdisciplinary team environment
  • Experience working on Agile Product Teams
  • Experience with Software engineering best-practices, including but not limited to version control (Git, TFS, Subversion, etc.), CI/CD (Jenkins, Maven, Gradle, etc.), automated unit testing, Dev Ops.
