Job Description

Set on a 520-acre estate with a unique coastal setting, Fairmont St Andrews encapsulates luxury, elegance, and truly breath-taking surroundings in the 'Home of Golf.' The resort boasts 211 rooms with two 4-bedroom Manor Homes, 3,000 sqm of conference and events space, state of the art health club and spa centres, with two 18-hole championship golf courses on which the European Tour hosted events in in 2020, 2021, and will be played again in 2022. There are 5 food and beverage offerings with outlets St Andrews Bar & Grill at the Clubhouse, a sports bar Zephyr, Italian family-style La Cucina, Afternoon Tea and breakfast at the Kittocks and Squire.

The Owners of Fairmont St Andrews have a vision: to develop the resort into an iconic, fully integrated, world-class resort with championship golf courses, luxury branded holiday homes, destination spa, health and wellness centre with activities to be enjoyed by all guests. To realise this vision, the Owners are currently developing a master re-development plan.  The General Manager will work closely with ownership to further develop and execute such Vision.

Reporting into the COO Europe Luxury brands, the General Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the hotel in accordance with company standards, mission statement, vision, and values. The maximization of financial performance, guest satisfaction and Brand colleagues’ development is an integral part of the position. Furthermore, it is essential to assist the COO Europe luxury brands in the development and communication of strategies, goals, and objectives as well as the development, implementation, and monitoring of financial and operational plans for the hotels while, managing, growing and fostering positive owner relations and maximizing performance.

  1. Operations
    Employee engagement:
  • Directly supervise the Executive Committee members and indirectly supervise all hotel personnel
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company’s policies and training programs
  • Act as an integer role model, displaying explicit knowledge and awareness of company standards

  • Growing business – A strong overview of finances, ability to think about the future and decide on strategic initiatives

  • Strong understanding of the competitive set to understand where the resort is and where it should be headed, to successfully drive the performance and reputation of the resort
  • Implement clear CSR and ESG objectives for the hotel to create maximum impact on social and environmental good

  • Efficient operation and cost control of all hotel departments and facilities
  • Execute marketing, sales, and operational activities, producing results that exceed the hotel’s business plan
  • Ensure adherence to relevant legislation relating to: fire; hygiene, employment, licensing, etc.

  1.  Qualifications
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in luxury hotel management
  • Strong Educational background required
  • Fluent in English
  • Local market experience is essential (previous experience preferred on Scottish Market)
  • Strong understanding of US luxury, MICE and Asia markets and future trends
  • Experience in resort asset types, with hands on management of golf resorts highly advantageous
  • Highly skilled in managing owner/management company relationships and quick with responses
  • Must be strategic, creative, and able to clearly communicate how plans will deliver on overall goals
  • Excellent speaking and presentation skills
  • Strong financial knowledge with experience on building business cases to support strategic plans and re-development goals
  • Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively manage time
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Adaptable and flexible with the capacity to set high goals and standards for the smooth operation of the hotel
  • Effective management style, hands-on and approachable
