  • You will provide legal services for BMW Group in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, with responsibility for BMW (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd. as well as BMW Financial Services (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd including subsidiaries, supporting, inter alia, sales, distribution, manufacturing, and financial services. Your responsibility will cover a broad range of areas of law including distribution law, antitrust laws, commercial law, corporate law, litigation, financial regulations, compliance labour law and real estate law.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the provision of legal services for BMW Group in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa, with responsibility for BMW (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd. as well as BMW Financial Services (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd including subsidiaries, supporting, inter alia, sales, distribution, manufacturing and financial services. The focus is on the following areas of law: distribution law, antitrust laws, commercial law, corporate law, procurement law, litigation, financial regulations, corporate finance, product liability, compliance, intellectual property law, labour law and real estate law.
  • Provide expert, comprehensive legal, strategic and operational advice, direction and guidance for the BMW Group South Africa (as required worldwide), its boards, directors, senior management and employees in support of sustainable business goals and profitability, protecting the interests and reputation of the BMW Group related to the BMW Group business in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Provide strategic corporate and commercial legal advice, company secretariat and financial services regulation to board members and senior management in South Africa, BMW AG, joint ventures, and collaborations related to the BMW Group business in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Proactively coordinate and influence key stakeholders both external and internal to ensure that decisions are in line with corporate strategy, including responsibility for escalating key strategic issues to senior management and board members, as appropriate
  • Prevent legal and reputational risk to the BMW Group in South Africa as well as take ownership of developing and managing corporate governance, legal and risk frameworks.
  • Take autonomous responsibility for negotiations with internal clients, external suppliers, customers, lawyers and regulatory authorities with regard to strategic high value or significant matters affecting the BMW Group in South Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa.
  • Instruct and manage external legal and other professional advisors to protect and promote BMW Group South Africa’s financial, operational, commercial, and reputational interests on an efficient, consistent and timely basis.
  • Regularly report to the CEOs of the BMW Group South Africa.

    Education & Competencies

    • Master’s degree qualification or equivalent law degree
    • 10 years of experience of general attorney and conveyancing practice (exclusive of articles)
