This is a Co-Op position which requires three alternating rotations (e. g. 1st rotation: Spring, 2nd rotation: Fall, 3rd rotation: Summer).

This Co-Op will have a special part in supporting this by working with specialists who are sure-footed enough to confidently go beyond the beaten path where flexible teams combine intellect and intuition to create solutions that have never been imagined before. From driving vehicles on the test track to working directly with engineering designs in Germany, our system integrators thoroughly investigate, solidify, and validate vehicles, parts, and systems to ensure that every customer is delivered a premium quality, defect-free product. The selected Co-Op will work on either (or both) vehicle buildability and vehicle functionality.
The qualified co-op should expect to contribute & improve in the following functions:
- The technical knowledge of a vehicle
- The development and drive of vehicle issue solutions
- Gain an understanding of departmental targets, process partner network and their role in Plant Spartanburg landscape
- Support root cause analysis and solution development for vehicle/part defects per the standardized BMW problem solving process
- Work to validate the buildability, functionality, and overall customer-oriented quality of prototype and production vehicles
- Coordinate and support prototype vehicle testing, specialist drive events, and vehicle-design launch events, including supplier part and virtual part concept/buildability evaluation
- Document, manage, and steer launch-related vehicle issues with plant specialists
- Maintain full ownership of a vehicle or part defect and work with process partners to identify the root cause, create solution and design changes and validate the effectiveness
- Create, design, and support the development of new programs or processes for vehicle analysis, problem solving, and overall department activities
- Develop team dashboards, target tracking for vehicle defects, and test procedures for functional and noise validations

- Degree pursuit in Mechanical, Electrical, Automotive or Industrial Engineering Degree
- Computer Aided Design (CAD) experience
- Prior automotive experience
- Strong geometric/mechanical problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and leadership skills/abilities
- Time and task management skills
- Possess a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major).
- Have full-time status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States.
- Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application.
- Ability to complete 3 alternating work terms for Co-op positions.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours / week).
- Transfer students must have a GPA from current university.
- Must Attach an unofficial transcript upon applying
- Complete and pass a substance abuse test before the work term.
- The work term dates for this rotation are January 3 2022 through May 6 2022
