AstraZeneca’s Finance function is undergoing a transformation journey with a significant focus on the Record to Report process.  Whilst a dedicated finance transformation programme is under way with significant resources delivering a number of inflight projects, the R2R Global Process Owner (GPO) function has been instrumental in developing a vision and roadmap for change.  Furthermore, we are working closely with the Finance Transformation function, adopting a ‘one team’ mentality.  The initial focus was standardisation and simplification with an evolution to optimising processes and driving an automation and technology agenda.  This role reports to the R2R GPO.  The GPO function reports to the Group Controller and supports users across the globe, including:  Group Financial Reporting, Global Financial Services, Global Business Services, Marketing companies, and Operations. We operate in a truly global capacity. 

Decisions on further opportunities for standardising, optimising and automating our processes will be based on existing process metrics and this is where this role comes in.  When it comes to performance metrics, you’re an expert. You know how to extract the right data and information, and how to create meaningful reports. This is a very visible role that will also involve designing, implementing and then tracking key metrics through performance scorecards and communicating the results to key stakeholders. Put simply, it’s an opportunity to make your skills count as part of a world-leading pharmaceutical company.

Main duties and responsibilities

It will be down to you to deliver the key metrics for our global R2R process. Essentially, you’ll be updating our Global R2R Process Board and other key stakeholders with metrics about the health of the process so that issues can be identified quickly, and continuous improvement can be achieved.

You’ll be key to ensuring we focus our attention on the parts of the R2R process that need improvement, based on facts and then following through and demonstrating the benefits that have been delivered out of our improvement projects. 

It’s a very collaborative role – you’re going to be working with stakeholders across Information Services, Group Finance and Global Finance Services, Global Business Services to establish an appropriate suite of metrics that measure how we perform our month end close and consolidation, our general ledger accounting, as well as our level of standardisation, automation, and compliance.

Efficiency is important here so you’ll look at how technology can deliver the metrics with minimal manual intervention. You can also expect to benchmark the metrics against external comparators as well as identifying trends, investigating them and proposing corrective actions when needed. You will also lead the R2R Process Governance Forum as well as the R2R Community Forum.  On occasion, you might need to support our Global Process Leads with ad-hoc analysis.

Essential skills and experience:

• A degree or equivalent professional qualification

• Technical expertise in the extraction and reporting of performance metrics (including SQL, relational databases, dashboard familiarity, such as MicroStrategy), knowledge of process design and a keen understanding of KPIs

• An excellent command of business English

• The ability to manage multiple projects effectively

• A team-oriented approach

• The ability to use a range of influencing techniques

• Strong numerical and analytical skills.

• Previous experience in R2R

Desirable skills and experience:

• Specific industry and process experience, including benchmarking.

• Significant experience of global technology implementations

• Proven experience of change management
