We are recruiting for our Global Sensory & Consumer Science Manager for Pet. In that role you would be leading the global capability (methodology, functional competencies) agenda for Mars Petcare Consumer Technical Insights all in service of transforming our ability to identify and apply deep insight on the pet parent / pet / product interaction.

This position could be based in one of our Global R&D Hubs in Verden (Germany), Leeds (UK) or Franklin, TN (US).


What would be your key responsibilities?

  • Provide Sensory & Consumer Science (SCS) thought leadership for the Global Petcare Consumer Technical Insights (CTI) community
  • Determine and deliver the SCS methodology strategy in line with evolving business needs and in close consultation with R&D teams across the globe, including CTI, but also customers in global and regional R&D teams. Co-create and collaborate with Consumer Marketing Insights Teams (CMI) and CTI across segments, so that there is one synergistic agenda within Pet, closely connected across segments.
  • Engage CTI community behind delivery of methodology program and proactively manage stakeholders for methodology strategy.
  • Ensure quality delivery of CTI research across CTI building on best practice defined across the global innovation process.
  • Lead fundamental sensory and consumer research projects that are required to develop new methodologies or close fundamental knowledge gaps applicable across our product technologies
  • Create and deliver an annual CTI functional competency development program targeted to continuously evolve the group’s competency levels
  • Ensure knowledge and application of innovative sensory and consumer research methodologies within Mars Petcare via active participation in conferences and internal/external sensory/consumer science network
  • Coach and advise the Sensory and Consumer scientists within the Global Petcare CTI community on the application of appropriate methodologies 


What are we looking for?

  • University degree (Masters or PhD) in Sensory Science, Consumer Science, Food Science, Psychology or related fields
  • Relevant (10 years +) experience in Sensory and Consumer Science including professional placements during academic studies (agency and/or FMCG company)
  • Expert in current and innovative Sensory and Consumer Science methodologies
  • Proven track record in applied Sensory & Consumer Science with demonstrable business impact, ability to define and deliver capability programs in service of business impact
  • Proven ability to apply perspective and business acumen, influence peers and senior stakeholders, supported by strong communication and presentation skills
  • Strong critical thinking
  • Relevant Sensory and Consumer Science software and statistical skills (Statistical packages such as R, Minitab, SPSS, SAS; sensory data collection software such as Compusense, FIZZ, Eye Question)
  • Fluent in English
