Job Description
Come join us to develop, drive and execute a new product category at Portal! Portal is looking for an experienced Global Supply Manager (GSM) based in China that wants to be on the ground floor of breakthrough technology and building a world-class supply chain. This individual will be responsible for managing the supply chain for custom mechanical components at Facebook and will work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Planning during product development and mass production to ensure a successful product launch. He or she will lead mass production readiness and ramp up for the custom mechanical component supply chain. Location: Shenzhen, Shanghai or Suzhou
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead capacity and ramp planning efforts across the custom mechanical component supply chain
- Drive mass production readiness at supplier site including facility, equipment, tooling, fixture, material, and manpower readiness
- Formulate contingency plans to mitigate technical, long lead-time, single/sole-source, and non-cancellable/non-returnable supply risks
- Develop and implement strategies to maintain schedule flexibility while minimizing excess and obsolescence risk
- Monitor production and shipping status during mass production and drive corrective actions with suppliers as needed
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Quality Engineering, Material Program Management, and Contract Manufacturing partners to resolve any chronic part shortages or quality issues affecting production schedules
- Own sustaining production and inventory management including end of manufacturing ramp down to ensure continuity of supply while minimizing excess and obsolescence risk
- Collaborate closely with US-based GSM counterpart to incorporate real-time factory status and feedback into project decisions
- Support part and capital expenditure cost reduction/avoidance efforts during development and ramp up
- Support mechanical component supplier selection and performance evaluation with factory-based insights
- Continually benchmark the custom mechanical component industry to monitor cost and technology trends to ensure best practices are incorporated into the Facebook supply chain
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent
- 5 years of experience leading mass production ramp up of Asia-based custom mechanical component supply chain in high-volume, consumer-electronics industry
- Profound knowledge of custom mechanical component manufacturing processes including injection molding, compression molding, stamping, forging, die-casting, CNC, lathe, drilling, metal injection molding, die-cut, PVD, anodizing, paint, pad/screen print, laser cut/etch, gluing, fabric wrap, etc.
- Strong project management, communication, and cross-functional teamwork skills
- English and Mandarin fluency
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills including command of Microsoft Excel
- Accustomed to working on high-pressure projects with tight schedules
- Able to travel frequently within China as needed
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA or Master of Engineering
- 7 or more years of experience leading mass production ramp up of Asia-based custom mechanical component supply chain in high-volume, consume-electronics industry
- Other commodity sourcing experience is a plus, e.g., thermal, soft goods, packaging, electro-mechanical
