This role is responsible for leadership of the global Field Application Scientist function within the Cell Culture and Cell Therapy business unit. This person will establish the processes for a global FAS organization that drives deep technical customer engagements and supports business growth. This requires a highly trained organization and harmonized customer experience that aligns the business goals for technical engagements in support of sustainable and scalable growth, in addition to commercial alignment regionally. Acts as primary contact for the Business Unit leadership and must provide strategic planning, operational processes, key metric management, training, tools and project coordination support for the regional teams supporting customers, and the Commercial organization.
RESPONSIBILITES:
- Global technical subject matter expert for Cell Culture and Cell Therapy business. Works in lockstep with commercial organization and partners with Product Management, R&D, Marketing and business development to develop strategies and technologies to meet industry and customer needs.
- Acts as the primary interface with the business, aligning business unit strategy with the Field Application Scientist organization globally. Develops global metrics and KPIs which align with the business.
- Drives alignment of regional priorities with regional FAS Leaders and Commercial Leaders
- Coordinates Global Projects; assigns resources and priorities in conjunction with Regional FAS Leaders.
- Partners with Core Account Managers on technical engagement of Core Accounts globally to align and drive overall strategy and process, including plan for technical engagements.
- Partners with FAS Regional Leaders on appropriate staffing to support growth. Consults on FAS roles within the regions, true player coach for global team and recognized subject matter expert
- Establishes and drives deliverables by region
- Develop and track metrics for technical engagements
- Oversee generation of Customer Facing Applications Data
- Partner with the Account Managers and Business Development Managers to ensure effective utilization of FAS
- Harmonizes/standardizes GEMBA and Process Review
- Develop global technical standards and support the Continuous Improvement of Field Application Scientists for the business globally
- Develop and manage onboarding and training of new FAS staff.
- Leverage metrics for continuous improvement opportunities for the team
- Prioritize and manage the creation of internal knowledge repository (white papers and job aids) needed to increase efficiency and effectiveness of FASs
- Work with R&D and Product Managers to develop and update requirements for services and technologies needed
- Support the Continuous improvement of Cell Culture Products and Service Offerings
- Partners with Prod Mgmt to review and assess VOC strategy, and information/data/trends and initiate any changes in programs needed
- Partner with R&D on alpha, beta testing programs to ensure FAS engagement
- Compile and analyze VOC from all FAS to identify unmet customer needs
- Maintain a current understanding of industry trends and progress by attending scientific conferences and trade show and reviewing current literature
- Deliver effective and substantial communications to customers, conferences, industry groups
- Support Local and Global Sales Process
- Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with customers at local targeted and global Core Accounts
- Leverage the support of local FAS while maintaining a global view of Core Accounts
- Build coordinated planning process with BPD Services Business Managers
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of the biomanufacturing cell culture process, business and customer base with an established technical track record.
- Demonstrated scientific acumen with strong technical and analytical skills
- Record of strong success to drive growth and enable customer success
- Self-starter with the ability to create and execute plans with minimal supervision. Strong management, project management and planning skills, comfortable making decisions in ambiguous situations and embracing change
- Demonstrated leadership and ability to drive alignment and growth across a matrix organizational structure and influence without authority
- Outcome orientation and a strong desire to plan and measure the success of initiatives
- Global mindset. Ability to work with teams across the global and cultural difference
- Bachelors degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Engineering or related discipline; Master's, PhD or M.B.A is preferred
- People management experience
- Minimum 15 years of industry technical experience in therapeutic cell culture and process development in a cGMP environment
- Experience in interacting with external clients and ability to present technical content to external audiences; commercial experience preferred
- Ability to effectively manage shifting priorities and work at a rapid pace.
- Proven relationship building skills required.
- Excellent communication skills are required.
- Continuous improvement certification, such as Six Sigma preferred
- Travel 50+% of the time including international travel as required.
