What you’ll do

As a member of AstraZeneca’s Asia Area Government Affairs & Policy team, you’ll be part of a small, fast moving and highly entrepreneurial team that pursues strategic partnerships with governments to support better health through innovation. Asia Area covers the South Korea, Taiwan, South East Asia and India markets.

In this role you’ll work with AstraZeneca’s country teams as well as above-market colleagues to identify and pursue opportunities to strengthen healthcare policy and practice related to our therapeutic areas. This involves targeted projects to address specific policy obstacles to care, as well as broader public-private partnerships that help position AstraZeneca as a leader in collaborative healthcare innovation.

This will include supporting AstraZeneca’s commitment to help stem the pandemic by enabling broad and equitable access to our COVID-19 vaccine, in partnership with governments across Asia Area.

The ideal candidate is a strategic leader that develops a deep understanding of AstraZeneca’s scientific strengths and in-country business objectives, as well as government priorities, and acts on it to create value where it matters most: the health of patients.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Support the development and periodic review of the Asia Area government affairs and policy strategy.

  • Create and implement projects that empower AstraZeneca country teams to develop partnerships that address obstacles to healthcare as well as drive AstraZeneca’s reputation.

  • Assist, advise and collaborate with AstraZeneca country teams on specific issues they face, such as healthcare policy obstacles and business risks.

  • Support high-level business interactions and public engagements with senior AstraZeneca executives.

  • Develop communication documents (formal letters, meeting minutes, presentations) on assigned topics. Manage content approval for all materials in accordance with AstraZeneca SOPs.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager.

Required for this role:

  • 3-5y experience in government, international organisation, consulting, industry public affairs or similar

  • Experience developing and implementing complex projects with multi-sectoral stakeholder engagement

  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a complex, fast moving organisation without explicit authority

  • Excellent communicator in multi-cultural, multi-sector setting

  • Ambition and courage to transform the status quo

Desirable for this role:

  • Pharmaceutical industry experience welcome but not required

  • Understanding of healthcare policy and how it connects to the life sciences industry

  • Understanding of domestic and international politics & economics

  • Experience managing public affairs resources in market in a matrixed organization
