Amgen’s 10 – 12 week internship program offers meaningful project experiences that impact patient’s lives.  This internship provides the opportunity for executive and social networking events and to participate in community volunteer projects while providing a competitive compensation. 

Relocation in the form of a miscellaneous allowance will be provided for eligible candidates.

The Clinical Pharmacology, Modeling and Simulation department supports Amgen clinical development and translational sciences programs across multiple therapeutic areas. The department is seeking a graduate student for a summer internship opportunity at Amgen.

The internship is aimed at exploring the applicability of mathematical, statistical, and computational methods to model data for immuno-oncology therapies for various cancers.  Working with subject matter experts, this opportunity provides the intern with extensive projects that may involve

  • Crafting baseline models to benchmark performance in estimation and prediction in immune-oncology models
  • Building appropriate modules/software scripts and associated visualizations to assess validity and performance of the model from various points of interest
  • Extending/Improving the model capabilities to increase performance in estimation and prediction

Basic Qualifications

Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria: 

18 years or older

Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent

Currently enrolled in an MBA program for an MBA internship OR a Master’s program for a Master’s internship OR a PharmD program for a PharmD internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university and completion of the first year of MBA OR Master’s OR Pharm D OR PhD program before internship starts

Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment

Must not be employed at the time the internship starts

Preferred Qualifications

Degree concentration(s) in Statistics, Math, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering, or Pharmaceutical Sciences

In at least the third year of current program

Experience using one or more of the following methods: applied mathematical methods, Bayesian inference, and/or stochastic simulations

Inquisitive mind and interest for modeling biological systems and its applications

Exposure to ordinary differential equation systems and modeling

Proficiency in R, Python, Matlab, or Julia

Familiarity with a Bayesian statistical modeling language (e.g. WinBUGS, JAGS, Stan, PyMC3, Turing.jl) is an advantage
