During this program, you will work within the Pharmacokinetics and Drug Metabolism group at Amgen to develop innovative metabolomics and lipidomics techniques to support programs across multiple therapeutic functions within research and development. Your work will inform drug-target engagement, mechanism of action, and aid in the discovery of novel biomarkers to facilitate drug development. The intern will be responsible for performing cell culture and treatment, sample preparation, reagent screening, LC-MS/MS method development and data analysis. Other responsibilities include electronic laboratory notebook keeping and communication of results to project teams.
The department of PKDM within Amgen is dedicated to the discovery and development of novel effective, safe medicines. The intern will work in a team environment to characterize the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and pharmacokinetic properties of therapeutic drug candidates to achieve their full pharmacological potential. PKDM works in close partnership with fields such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, clinical pharmacology and regulatory to design promising clinical therapeutic candidates, conduct preclinical development studies, support clinical evaluation and contribute to IND and NDA filings.

Basic Qualifications
Amgen requires that all individuals applying for a grad internship or a co-op assignment at Amgen must meet the following criteria:
18 years or older
Graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a 3.0 minimum GPA or equivalent
Currently enrolled in an MBA program for an MBA internship OR a Master’s program for a Master’s internship OR a PharmD program for a PharmD internship OR PhD for a PhD internship from an accredited college or university and completion of the first year of MBA OR Master’s OR Pharm D OR PhD program before internship starts
Enrolled in an accredited college or university following the potential internship or co-op assignment
Must not be employed at the time the internship starts
Preferred Qualifications
Pursuing a PhD in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or similar degree program.
Hands on experience operating LC-MS and GC-MS instrumentation is preferred.
Experience with bioinformatic analysis of large ‘omics datasets is preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to excel in a highly collaborative, matrixed team environment.
