Group Director Technical Services – Corporate Office

Headquartered in Hong Kong, Wharf Hotels is the hotel management company for Niccolo and Marco Polo Hotels.  The expanding hotel group is seeking a Group Director Technical Services with a solid new build hotel project management and senior leadership experience at the Corporate Office in Hong Kong. Assisting the Vice President Operations, the Associate will be responsible for the technical Services function at Wharf Hotels.

Your Skills:

Existing Hotels 

  • Reviews, assesses and reports on project proposals emanating from existing hotels. 
  • Conducts regular audits and reports on existing hotels technical facilities, M&E, R&M aspects in general and fire, life safety standards in particular.  Review, update and implement policies and procedures.
  • Maintains awareness of new developments related to all aspects within his scope of responsibilities affecting both existing as well as new hotel operations.
  • Monitors the maintenance standard, energy consumption, budget and expense etc., of the Engineering Department.
  • Takes ownership and oversees brand standards (design and technical) for both Marco Polo and Niccolo Brand. Coordinate internally and externally to ensure consistency and uniformity
  • Interface with multiple departments:
o   Provide feasibility analysis for hotel and resort projects
o   Coordinate FF&E and OS&E programs for projects
o   Contract negotiation
o   Interface with bidding and value engineering process
o   Interface with construction administration activities
o   Provide day to day management of multiple projects, organizational strategy and process leadership

  • Actively trains in fire prevention, environmental health and safety and engineering systems. Works closely with the team to organize and implement planning, design and construction for new and existing properties
  • Advises licences application/renewal by the hotels.
  • Provides technical advice to maintain and operational problems that arise.
  • Reviews and comments on the proposed up grading/renovation works and special projects, and to ensure that all works can comply with Local Authorities’ requirements.
  • Reviews and comments on the annual budget and capital expenditure proposal related to technical issues.
  • Implements through Technical Managers energy saving or other new technology which will be beneficial to the hotels.
  • Participates in different internal working committees, eg. Environment Committee, Technology Committee.
  • Liaises with public and government bodies with objectives to obtain first hand information relating to the hotel industry.
  • Provides M/E consultancy services if required by the Owner.
  • Formulates and organizes development activities and provide follow thru consistent with the vision and goals of WHM
  • Analyzes and evaluates operations of existing and new properties to ensure their value and character are consistently implemented into all future projects
  • Analyzes and evaluates current trends and best practices in the hospitality and resort markets

New Hotels Development

  • Leads Technical Services in all technical aspects related to new development as required under the services as stipulated in the Technical Consultancy Agreement.
  • Provides project management services if required.
  • Sets up Wharf Hotels standards and applies to new projects and existing hotels if possible.
  • Assists owners with facilitating RFPs and interviews to select design teams and consultants for projects
  • Assists owners and development teams with technical services and related resources
  • Coordinates with design team consultants to deliver brand expectations and standards for projects
  • Coordinates with General Contractors and Sub-Contractors to deliver brand expectations and standards for projects
  • Prepares technical data, bidding, project work, alterations and repairs for properties. Must have basic knowledge of building codes

You are:

  • Minimum 12 years experience in new build hotel project management for international hotel brands.
  • Successful prior experience in technical services management in a similarly styled property position or with prior multi-property accountability including developing planning and implementing successful new restaurant concepts in new and existing hotels.
  • Oral and written fluency in English is mandatory. Mandarin is an advantage.
  • Exceptional leadership abilities with strong problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Personal maturity and interpersonal skills required include: Insight; emotional stability; objectivity; awareness; teamwork; communications; flexibility; integrity and empathy needed to be successful in a multicultural environment.
