Job Description

Group Legal and Compliance acts as a technical resource to the Group, providing advice and assistance with the practical consequences of complying with relevant compliance obligations, including interpretation of relevant laws, and guidance on the implementation of internal policies and procedures.  The Group Privacy team is part of the Group Compliance and Legal function. Informa’s Group Privacy team is responsible for the maintenance, execution and enforcement of the Group Privacy Programme including Groupwide policy, framework, guidance and standards for all teams and colleagues.

We are looking for a hardworking, motivated and friendly Privacy Manager to be located in China and to work closely with the Group Data Protection Officer and Privacy Managers embedded within the Divisions to provide professional, commercially balanced, high quality advice and drive forward the initiatives of the Group’s Data Privacy programme.

This role will have responsibility for being the key contact for China in terms of privacy compliance activities and includes working closely with a wide number of internal teams (Commercial teams in China, Global Technology, HR, Health & Safety, Corporate Travel, Legal, InfoSec) to ensure we are compliant with applicable PRC regulations and maintain a high standard of compliance resilience.  In particular this role will support our businesses China Compliance efforts, both those teams located in China and at times also our off-shore operations location in APAC, Europe and elsewhere.

This role is suited to an experienced data privacy professional with the ability to bring both legal and operational expertise to their role. The successful candidate will need the ability to multi-task, and take a pragmatic, risk-based approach to data protection compliance and detailed approach to data privacy in a fast-paced commercial environment.

You will work closely with stakeholders across the organisation on projects already underway and planned to ensure that privacy by design principles are baked in, the right agreements, policies, and controls are in place and that risks are reviewed, assessed, and managed.

Key Accountabilities

·          Lead and deliver core initiatives to comply with PRC Laws and Regulations including developing plans, drafting deliverable and engaging stakeholders as needed. 

·          Assist the Group DPO in the management and delivery of the Group Privacy Programme with a focus on China compliance activities.

·          Working with Group Data Protection Officer and other privacy managers to support the business to provide professional, efficient and commercial balanced advice and support to global programmes and initiatives to ensure compliance with relevant regulations in China in particular.

·          Act as a technical resource providing advice on the practical consequences of complying with relevant privacy obligations, including interpretation of relevant laws, and guidance on the implementation of local internal policies, procedures and guidance.

·          Responsibility for applying Informa’s Privacy framework (Governance, policies, standards and guidance) in the China businesses including monitoring the implementation and application of internal data protection policies and processes.

·          Develop good relationships and work closely with key managers to ensure that policy information and supporting processes are communicated clearly and operationalised effectively.

·          Foster a data protection culture within the organisation and help to implement essential elements of Data protections, such as the principles of data processing and data protection by design and by default. Lead engagement sessions and coaching teams, developing materials as needed.

·          Prepare and where needed review PRC and other global privacy risk assessments. This will include where needed to support submissions to the authorities in China.

·          Providing analysis and advice on complex data protection queries providing pragmatic recommendations to the Business teams.

·          Work with Group team to maintain our Records of Processing Activities documentation.

·          Work with the Legal team in the review of relevant legal contracts and advise where necessary on data sharing arrangements, and cross-border data transfers.

·          Lead incident and breach investigations and DSARs as necessary.

·          Support privacy team to assess the level of compliance maturity and privacy-related risks within Group including Risk Reporting process.

·          Monitor compliance activities and effectiveness of internal controls conducting assessments and audits to suggest improvements.

·          Keep abreast of Data Privacy Law changes around the world

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will be individuals whose qualities include: 

·          Experience of delivering a wide-ranging privacy programme within a multinational business.

·          A high standard of technical knowledge in data privacy obligations including the Regulations and Laws of China (DSL, CSL, PIPL) and GDPR.  Other regulations including CCPA, E-Privacy, Marketing regulations would be an advantage.

·          Experience fostering a data protection culture within the organisation and help to implement essential elements of Data protections, such as the principles of data processing, data subjects’ rights, data protection by design and by default, records of processing activities, security of processing, and data breach handling

·          Flexibility/adaptability to manage multiple wide-ranging compliance matters. 

·          Proven ability to manage and complete projects across multiple business units and commitment to work collaboratively with numerous stakeholders at all levels throughout the organisation. 

·          Demonstrated ability to identify, prioritise and resolve issues promptly and effectively in a commercial and practical manner, using established risk-based prioritisation methodologies. 

·          Excellent organisational, communication, managerial, project management and administrative skills. 

·          Confident team player with a proactive attitude and a focus on delivery and strong communication

·          Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating professionalism at all times. 

·          Attention to detail and strong follow through

·          Resilient and ability to work in a flexible environment

·          CIPP-A or similar qualification, legal background would be an advantage

·          Fluent English speaker
