Job Description
As the HDD Business Segment Marketing Lead for Smart Video in China, you will lead the go-to-market strategy and effort for this segment in China. You will provide Smart Video and Video Analytics HDD marketing leadership and vision to the broader team, and represent the company internally and externally across China as the segment voice. You will lead the business unit engagement with select Video Surveillance and Smart Video OEM customers and work very closely with the customer account team, Product Management, Product Marketing, and Business Analyst teams to coordinate ongoing strategic discussions with the customers, understand the customers’ short-term and long-term solution storage needs, align with our portfolio of HDD products, and orchestrate the actions needed to negotiate, secure and drive positive business results. To be successful, the candidate will bring a combination of strategic vision, technical aptitude, business acumen, excellent communication skills, cross team coordination experience, and customer engagement experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Understand and track trends in the Video Surveillance and Smart Video market segment in China, including implications on potential storage product or technology needs and requirements
- Establish deep understanding of market through ongoing review of relevant market research reports and dialog with research experts and strategic OEM customers
- Evolve and drive the comprehensive GTM strategy for the segment in China, including product and technology portfolio, product placement, pricing, and promotion strategy, and define any needed customer resources and ecosystem enabling
- Work with corporate team to define and execute Go-To-Market financial plans to establish Western Digital as a leader in HDD for the China smart video and video analytics segment
- Be the primary HDD business unit representative for the segment in the region, strengthening relationships and ongoing engagement with key customers and internal account teams and driving business imperatives and interests
- Identify key customer needs and pain points and work with product management & software ecosystem teams to convert into product requirements and ensure they are incorporated into the roadmap
- Influence customer’s roadmap with respect to HDD portfolio to deliver to segment strategy
- Bring in segment specific customer inputs and validate assumptions for business planning and develop segment specific mid-range plans, validate business case assumptions, and develop segment and customer level strategic pricing/positioning
- Work with the segment business analyst to define, manage and deliver to customer level account plans and objectives, including product transitions, TAM, portfolio share, revenue, and margin targets
- Work with the segment business analyst to secure commercial agreements for assigned customer portfolio as needed
- Develop & maintain key customer-focused and market-focused presentations relevant to the segment and region
- Develop & maintain market model for key smart video customers / partners
- Represent Western Digital at technology conferences, tradeshows
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- 10-15 years of product marketing or segment marketing experience in a customer-facing role (e.g., delivering presentations to customers, initiating and driving productive dialog with customers to understand their GTM strategy and plans, conducting market research)
- Experience in or strong familiarity with the commercial video surveillance / security video market, including emerging AI and smart video solutions
- Demonstrated success in positioning and launching differentiated products that meet and exceed business objectives
- Experience in P&L ownership; creating and driving towards aggressive business plans and targets
- Technical aptitude is a must; a technical bachelor’s degree or higher is highly desired
PREFERRED:
- MBA preferred
- Broad subject matter expertise in both Hard Disk Drives (HDDs) and Flash technology, such as Solid-State Drives (SSDs), SD and microSD cards, and embedded flash devices. This should include specific industry or technical knowledge.
- Understanding of the B2B environment and go-to-market tactics
SKILLS:
- Must be a strong public speaker, comfortable in front of large senior groups, whether external or internal.
- Sharp analytical and problem-solving skills; must be attentive to details
- Excellent people skills to interact and influence colleagues, cross-functional teams and third parties.
- Proficient in productivity applications such as Microsoft Office especially Microsoft Excel.
- Comfortable using collaboration and CRM tools such as Salesforce.
- Able to communicate the value of new products and services to the sales and marketing team
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent deadlines
