Main purpose of job
This is a dynamic role for an exceptional individual to join Department for International Trade (DIT) Hong Kong team as a Trade and Investment Adviser to help to advance the trade and investment ambitions articulated in the DIT Hong Kong Trade Plan.
Reporting to the Head of Inward Investment, the core focus of the job is to provide administrative support to the delivery of the following objective:
"To promote the UK as the ideal location for Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese companies in Hong Kong that plan to expand overseas, and to support these companies to set up and expand their business operations and investments in the UK."
The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate their ability to work both independently and with senior stakeholders, as well as their competence to develop skills in an international, commercial and government settings. Opportunities to expand their professional network may arise which strong interpersonal skills will also be an advantage.
Context
The Department for International Trade (DIT) is the arm of the UK government responsible for securing UK and global prosperity by promoting and financing international trade and investment, and championing free trade.

Led by Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for China and Hong Kong, DIT China and Hong Kong team are one of the nine global regions and part of an overseas network that operates in 108 countries.
Based in British Consulate-General Hong Kong, the DIT Hong Kong team offers a fast-paced place to work as the office covers opportunities in Hong Kong and Macau, as well as South China in collaboration with the rest of the DIT China teams.
Main Responsibilities
Organisational support (80%)
- Provide general administrative support to senior members of the team, including but not limited to diary management, data input, meeting and travel arrangements, CRM database management, procurement management, and performance tracking.
- Undertake market research and build intelligence of trends and developments around British trade and investment, primarily through media monitoring
- Develop a broad understanding of the Inward Investment team’s objectives and campaigns in order to provide input and advices to the Marketing and team in delivering priority events, PR and communications plans
- Support high level visits in terms of travel logistics and programme arrangements
- Represent the wider team and participate proactively in various communities and committees for feedback and suggestions
- Cover other advisers and undertake similar administrative work in other teams and sectors when required
Service delivery (20%)
- Respond to both internal and commercial enquiries from UK, Hong Kong and Macao companies and investors
- Assist the delivery of Foreign Direct Investment projects by supporting CRM and inward investment projects
- Support other sector teams in the delivery of business mission, export opportunities publication and Overseas Market Introduction Service by conducting market research, business matching, coordinating visit programme, organising events, and documenting data and progresses when required
This position is open to Hong Kong citizens, permanent residents, and partners/dependents of UK-based diplomatic staff currently posted in Hong Kong. Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment checks. No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. This is a supporting role with client-facing opportunities where outstanding organisational and communication skills are they key requirements for the role.
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- Exceptional interpersonal and language skills with professional and diplomatic demeanour
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to deliver high quality work with pace
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills particularly in the use of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- High self-motivation, flexible, resilient and proactive attitude
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Appropriate residence status or a valid working visa in Hong Kong
- Fluency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin, both spoken and written
- Minimum of 2+ years of relevant full-time work experience
- Broad knowledge of, or demonstrable interest in, the UK and Hong Kong’s business environment
- Experience of administrative support, marketing, event and budget management and/or business development
- Graduate degree in business, international trade or other relevant area
