The role is accountable for the P&O (HR) function for Mars Retail, the Direct-to-Consumer business of M&M’s. The business currently encompasses the flagship M&M’s Stores (Shanghai, London, Disney Springs, Las Vegas, New York, Mall of America and Berlin), the mms.com Digital Business in 13 countries across the US and Europe, and M&M’s Merchandise Licensing, in total with approximately 900 associates.

 

As a senior member of the Management Team, and co-pilot to the General Manager, the P&O Director will design and implement organization strategy to enable the business strategy. Focused on creating a unique Associate Experience based on Development Purpose and People; an effective internal and external talent strategy; and the cultivation of an organization that thrives in an inclusive culture inspired by the Five Principles of Mars Inc.

 

It is also expected that this leader will continue to cultivate a strong working relationship with other Mars, Inc. leaders (both P&O and business), the broader M&M’s community, and with the other parts of the Mars Inc P&O Operating Model.

 

What are we looking for?

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required.  Major in Business or Human Resources Management or related preferred.
  • SPHR or SHRM-SCP Certification preferred, but not required. 
  • Global / Regional Travel required up to  25%  
  • 10 years of increasingly responsible senior positions in Human Resources in the Retail industry Physical stores and/or Digital e-commerce, with experience as a co-pilot to senior business leaders.
  • A dynamic leader. Experience in managing and building a high-performance team which inspires credibility and confidence both inside and outside the company. 
  • Track record of delivery and demonstrated people and change agility.  

 

What would be your key responsibilities?

 

  • Co-pilots the General Manager and Management Team to deliver the business strategy by providing leadership in the areas of organizational development and change, talent pipeline, retail and digital talent attraction, associate development, associate engagement, inclusion, wellbeing, compensation & benefits, high performing teams and culture. 
  • Supported by CoEs, and the capabilities of the MRG P&O team, leads with data and insights to develop and engage business leaders in effective organizational interventions and people strategies in line with the business strategy to create a unique Associate Experience and brand experience with millions of M&M’s consumers around the world.
  • Drives the development of an inclusive and high-performance culture in the business consistent with the Five Principles of Mars, Inc. Must effectively communicate, inspire and align the team behind this vision and strategy to drive transformation; and then, translate this strategy into clearly focused priorities and targets.
  • Recruits, onboards, engages and develop talent, P&O and other key leaders, to maximize performance the Mars way within a lean environment. 
  • Delivers high levels of associate engagement, wellbeing and inclusion by upskilling line managers and driving a dedicated focus on improving the work environment. Helps to create and maintain a working environment that keeps MRG an exciting and rewarding place to work.
  • Recommends appropriate strategies to attract, develop, and retain the digital and retail talent needed to drive a transformative business and purpose agenda.   
  • Manages annual pay and benefits planning process and develop strategies with CoEs, the GM and CFO to retain key talent and address emerging trends.  This includes pay and benefits planning and recommendations in multiple regions around the globe. 
  • Works closely with P&O cross-segment within Mars Inc. and in the P&O Operating Model with MyPO and CoEs to ensure that consistency and differentiation when it matters in all policies and people processes is in line with the “Five Principles” of Mars and local law in the regions we operate.
