The Role

We are looking for a hands-on HR Generalist with UK specific experience, to own operational HR for the UK, working with managers and employees as part of an EMEA HR team and with the Senior Director, Human Resources.   The role in located in SDL’s head office in Maidenhead, and works closely with an HR Advisor to seamlessly execute operational HR in multiple offices in the UK, and ensure compliance with employment law and best practices.  This role will be expected to help mentor and develop the capabilities of the HR Advisor, but is an individual contributor role without direct reports.

Key Responsibilities: 

§  Own UK HR operations across multiple sites in the UK & Ireland, innovating and driving improvements in all areas of UK HR operations and administration.

§  Consult and advise on UK employee relations issues, actively leading on discipline, grievances, performance, absence management and redundancies as required.

§  Continually assess current UK HR policies and procedures for relevance, and business / legal alignment, redrafting and communicating as appropriate, and helping develop new polices in areas relating to diversity, inclusion and mental health.

§  Involvement is developing processes related to immigration, right to work and employment status including IR35.

§  Working closely with managers and colleagues to provide support and guidance on HR issues, global HR processes and changes to employment legislation, including developing and delivering presentations in the form of information sessions, creating template letters, emails and other communications.

§  Assisting with culture transformation including active promotion of “Life at SDL” by having a visible presence in the office and regularly speaking to employees and managers. 

§  Supporting CSR activity and site leader events – helping develop ideas on employee engagement.

§  Build a strong relationship with the internal client groups particularly Marketing Solutions and Translation Productivity departments, working in conjuction with regional HR across the world and HR centres of excellence.

§  Offer 'open door' and provide advice to employees on work related issues with empathy and professionalism.

§  Help support the UK apprenticeship program, working with outsourced provider.

§  Maintain HRIS and other systems to maintain data integrity and gather appropriate, timely and accurate HR metrics data to enable data driven business decisions.

§  Drive improvements to data privacy and retention in our HR processes related to GDPR.

§  Work closely with our centres of excellence in Talent Acquisition, Global Total Rewards and Talent development to help locally communicate our global HR projects such as career framework, annual salary review process and salary bands.

§  Support other ad-hoc projects in the UK and Globally including those related to TUPE, payroll and HRIS.

Requirements:

§  CIPD qualified or working towards it.

§  Demonstrable experience of HR generalist work in the UK gained with a small to medium business with a focus on the UK operations.

§  Experience of UK TUPE processes would be highly desirable.

§  Clear communicator in written and spoken English, confident at presenting and experienced at having difficult conversations on sensitive subjects

§  Someone who keeps up to date with changes in UK Employment law and best practices,

§  Experienced at writing policies with an interest in diversity, inclusion and mental health

§  Hands on experience of owning employee relations cases including redundancy consultation processes, protected conversations, capability and performance and disciplinary cases.

§  Strong customer service skills – all employees and managers are our customers

§  Friendly, approachable and empathetic with good listening skills and ability to be a trusted advisor to first line managers.

§  Team player able to build strong relationships across boundaries.

§  Good attention to detail and ability to check the work of others.

§  Ability to mentor and help assist the personal development of other team members
